Raipur: With the arrest of a six-member interstate gang of vehicle lifters yesterday in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh, the police claimed to have made their largest seizure of two wheelers so far.
The police seized 100 motorcycles from them.
“The arrested has been identified as Nohar Nath Goswami, Bhaiyaram Sahu, Mangal Malakar, Ghanshyam Patel, Bastab Kolta, Dolamani, all aged between 25 to 36 years,” Raigarh Superintendent of Police Rahul Bhagat told PTI.
Once of their accomplices Gulam Asmi Khan is detained in Bargadh jail, Odisha, the SP said.
“They used to steal vehicles from Raigarh and Janjgir-Champa districts of the state,” he said.
While acting on increasing complaints of motorbike theft, the crime branch got to know that a six-member gang sold two-wheelers with fake documents in Northern Chhattisgarh and the neighboring states of Odisha and Jharkhand.
After further investigation they were nabbed and 100 motorcycles were recovered from different places in Janjgir-Champa and Raigarh, based on their statements, the SP said.
“It is reported to be the largest recovery of stolen vehicles in the state,” he said.
A computer printer, fake registration documents and stamps were also recovered from their possession, he said.
A case has been registered against them and a further probe is on, he said.
