New Delhi: Passengers can soon book tickets even after the preparation of reservation charts if seats are available.

Indian railways have decided to make ticket reservation system more passenger friendly by accommodating their last minute travel plans

According to a circular by Indian Railways, Reservation will again become open at the computerised passenger reservation system and also on the Internet immediately after preparation of the first chart. Passengers can book the available accommodation in case there is no RAC or waitlist for that route.

“The vacant accommodation will remain available at train originating station for booking till the preparation of the second chart, which will ensure optimum utilisation and as well as enhanced earning. A supplementary chart of reservation made and cancellation done during the intermittent period will be taken out and handed over to the onboard ticket checking staff,” said a circular from the Railway Board.

Indian railways have also decided to put up reservation charts on trains four hours before their scheduled departure from November 18.

If there is an RAC/waiting list for the train, passengers can cancel the ticket up to 30 minutes before its scheduled departure. This is made to facilitate passengers, particularly those with partially confirmed tickets, to decide either to undertake the journey or cancel the ticket.

The Board has also decided that SMS updates will be sent to all passengers booking tickets at railway counters, which as of now is optional. “At present, SMS updates are sent for tickets booked through PRS to those passengers who have registered  their mobile number at the time of booking,” said the circular.
