New Delhi: The central government is in constant touch with the government of Jammu and Kashmir, and monitoring the flood situation there, an official said.

The National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) is taking stock of the flood situation in Jammu and Kashmir, a home ministry official told IANS, adding that Home Minister  also spoke to the chief minister of the flood-affected state on Monday.

"Rajnath Singh ji spoke to Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today (Monday) and discussed the flood situation there," he said.

Floods ravaged Kashmir Valley on Monday following incessant rainfall over the past four days. Anxious people were leaving for safer places as authorities kept a watch on swollen mountain streams and the Jhelum river, which was in spate.

Meanwhile, no breach of embankment has been reported, an official statement said.

However, as a precautionary measure, to assist the state government authorities, two teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deputed and another four teams kept on stand-by.

The state government has also been asked to indicate the assistance required by it, it added.
