The Babri Masjid Action Committee (BMAC) on Monday demanded that the CBI frame conspiracy charges against L K Advani and other BJP leaders reportedly indicted by the Liberhan Commission and said the body was "not surprised" by the inclusion of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's name in the report.

"The CBI should move a fresh application against Advani and others in the court to frame conspiracy charges against them in Babri mosque demolition case," BMAC convenor Zafaryab Zilani told PTI.

The agency, which had earlier dropped charges of criminal conspiracy against Advani and others, should frame the charge afresh in the light of Liberhan Commission report, he said.

"If any new evidence is placed by the commission, the CBI should use it in the court," Zilani said.

On reported indictment of the former prime minister in the report, he alleged, "Vajpayee was involved in the conspiracy to demolish the mosque. But the CBI did not register a case against him. The BMAC is not surprised with inclusion of his name in the report."

He, however, said the body will not demand any action against the veteran BJP leader for now.

"We will say anything about Vajpayee only after going through the commission's report and discussing the issue with various Muslim organisations." PTI
