CBI registers over 2,200 corruption cases in past 3 years

New Delhi, May 9: CBI has registered a total of 2,246 cases under different sections of Prevention of Corruption Act in the last three years.




The cases included 737 trap and 239 disproportionate assets cases, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions V Narayanasamy today told Lok Sabha in a written reply.

"CBI and the state anti-corruption agencies concerned nab persons for taking bribe or indulging in corruption. As no data is maintained centrally on the state-wise number of persons caught for taking bribe or indulging in corruption, it may not be possible to conclusively say whether cases of corruption and bribery are on the rise in the country," he said.

He said CBI has registered 2,246 cases between 2009 and March 2012. Of these, a highest of 795 were filed in 2009 as against 650 in 2010, 600 in 2011 and 201 cases were filed by the investigating agency between January and March this year.

"CBI also disposed of 2,169 PC Act cases during the last three years (2009 to March 2012). Of these, charge sheet has been filed in 1,744 cases," Narayanasamy said.
