CBI Registers Graft Case Against Senior Safdarjung Doctor

The CBI on Wednesday carried out searches at residential and official premises of a senior cardiologist of Safdarjung Hospital and claimed to have recovered "incriminating" documents showing properties worth Rs.10 crores in his and his family members' name.

 A case of disproportionate assets was registered under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act against Dr Rakesh Verma, Head of Cardiology Department at the hospital.

Official sources said as per intitial estimates, the properties are worth over Rs 10 crore but a final figure will be prepared after detailed examination of all the documents.

The searches were carried out at six locations including the official and residential premises of Dr Verma on the allegation that he was in possession of  disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 2.4 crores, the sources said.

The investigating agency carried out its searches at the office, residence and six other places in Delhi, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad, CBI spokesperson said.

"During searches, voluminous incriminating documents pertaining to possession of properties in his name, in the name of his family members and relatives were recovered," he said.

The spokesperon said the properties allegedly owned by him, his family members and relatives are at posh Sainik Farm, Patparganj, B K Road, Mansarovar Garden in Delhi, Kaushambi in Ghaziabad, Knowledge Park and Gautam Budh Nagar in Greater Noida and Bhondsi in Gurgaon.

"Details of various bank accounts and investment details in his name and in the name of him family members have also been recovered. The searches are continuing," he said.

 Verma was not available for comments. When called on his mobile and landline numbers, the cryptic response was "wrong number". PTI
