New Delhi, Oct 20: The CBI Saturday conducted raids in three cities and registered a case against Lt. Gen. (retd) Tejinder Singh for allegedly offering a bribe of Rs.14 crore to former army chief Gen. V.K. Singh to clear the purchase of nearly 600 trucks in September 2010.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a case against Lt. Gen. Tejinder Singh under the Prevention of Corruption Act and conducted raids around 7 a.m. Saturday at seven locations in three cities - including Delhi, Mumbai and Noida.
The investigating agency searched the houses of Lt. Gen. Tejinder Singh, Vectra group chief Ravinder Rishi and his associate Anil Mansukhani in connection with the alleged bribe offered to the former army chief.
The agency had registered a preliminary enquiry in the case April 11.
In his 22-page complaint to the CBI, the former army chief alleged that Lt. Gen.Tejinder Singh offered him a bribe of Rs.14 crore to clear the purchase of over 600 Tatra trucks, to be supplied by Vectra group through defence public sector company BEML.
The former army chief had claimed that the bribe was offered on behalf of Rishi.
The CBI earlier questioned Tejinder Singh in connection with alleged irregularities in the import of all-terrain heavy-duty Tatra trucks for the Indian Army and bribery allegations made by the former army chief.
Tejinder Singh refuted the allegations against him and filed a defamation case against the former army chief and other officers.
The CBI indicated that there was enough evidence to back the former army chief's allegation.
