Kolkata: A court on Saturday sent three people nabbed from Assam to eight-day NIA custody in connection with the Burdwan blast.

Eight other accused presented before the court were remanded to judicial custody till January 16.

The acting chief judge of Bankshall court G Talukdar sent Rafikul Islam, Saiful Islam, and Sahanur Alam to National Investigation Agency custody till January 9.

The three were presented in court on the basis of a production warrant issued by it.

NIA lawyer Shyamal Ghosh sought 10 days' custody for the trio arguing that they were the key accused in the October 2 blast in which two people had died at Khargragarh in Burdwan district when bombs kept in a house accidentally exploded.

He also submitted that the three had links with Bangladeshi terror outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

Following a request by the NIA, eight others - Hashem Mollah, Razia Bibi, Abdul Hakim, Myanmar national Khaled Mohammad, Alima Bibi, Zia-ul-Haq, Amjad and JMB commander Sajid A - were sent on judicial remand till January 16.

Abdul Hakim was injured in the October 2 blast. Khaled Mohammad was arrested from Hyderabad.

Probing the blast, the NIA has arrested several people including Bangladeshi nationals.
