Jammu: Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers on Friday made a commitment to uphold peace and tranquillity on the border and extend all cooperation to each other in dealing with emergent incidents in a proactive and positive manner.
The matter was iterated at a flag meeting on Friday at the Octroi outpost in the RS Pura sector of Jammu district between Commandant BSF, Jammu, and Wing Commander of the Rangers.
The flag meeting was held for the repatriation of BSF Constable Satyasheel Yadav by the Rangers after he was swept into Pakistan territory following an incident in Chenab river.
"Both sides reiterated their commitment to upholding peace and tranquillity on the border and extending all cooperation in dealing with emergent incidents in a proactive and positive manner," BSF spokesman, DIG(G), Jammu Frontier, Dharmendra Pareek said in a release here.
The Commandant BSF, Jammu, took part in the deliberations along with three officials while the Rangers' Wing Commander, too, was accompanied by three officials.
On August 6, Yadav, along with seven other personnel, was on a routine BSF motorboat patrol on Chenab river when its engine suddenly failed and the boat was caught in the main current of Chenab and started drifting downstream towards Pakistan.
While six personnel managed to swim to safety and another one was saved by a rescue boat, Yadav, who had jumped into the river, was swept in the current to Pakistan.
"The Rangers were contacted immediately through established procedures to trace and return the constable. The Rangers acted promptly upon BSF's request and the... BSF constable has been handed over today," the spokesman said.
Director General BSF, DK Pathak, reached Jammu on Friday and met Yadav. He expressed relief over his safe return and lauded him for his grit and morale under trying circumstances. The BSF DG also appreciated the prompt response by the Rangers, the spokesman added.
