BRS leader K Kavitha, currently lodged in Tihar Jail, was taken to Delhi's DDU Hospital on Tuesday evening. The reason for her hospitalization remains unclear. K Kavitha was arrested on March 15 in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. Shortly after, the Enforcement Directorate arrested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a related money laundering probe. Kavitha, the daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, faces accusations of being part of a group that allegedly paid Rs 100 crore to the AAP for a favorable liquor policy.
Judicial custody and charges
K Kavitha is under judicial custody in both ED and CBI cases. In June, the CBI filed a supplementary charge sheet against her, claiming there was sufficient evidence to prosecute her. Kavitha has been questioned inside jail regarding WhatsApp chats and a Rs 100 crore payment allegedly made to the party.
Bail plea and court proceedings
Earlier this month, K Kavitha sought "default" bail, arguing that the CBI's chargesheet against her was incomplete and filed solely to prevent her release. Her lawyer contended that the law requires a complete chargesheet within 60 days of arrest, a period she has already exceeded in jail. The court has listed the matter for further hearing on July 22.
