Chennai, May 6: A British Cabinet Minister and Prime Minister's Trade Envoy would lead a 26 member delegation to Chennai this week as part of strengthening ties between India and the United Kingdom, particularly in the healthcare sector.

During their visit, the Minister, Kenneth Clarke, accompanied by a host of members representing the health care sector from United Kingdom are likely to meet Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, an official release in Chennai said.

The delegates would also participate in a conference organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry and are also expected to make visits to corporate hospitals in the city.

"Many people say that the National Health Service is the closest thing the British have to a religion. But what they do not know is that our NHS was only actually built with the help of Indian doctors. On our visit we will be meeting senior Ministers and officials and visit hospitals..." Clarke said in the release.

British Deputy High Commissioner Mike Nithavrianakis said the Indo-British Healthcare Initiative, established a year ago, will host an Indo-UK Oncology summit at Chennai in September. "We see enormous potential for Tamil Nadu and the UK to work together in healthcare", he said.

The delegation will include representatives from healthcare management and solutions, universities, hospitals and private companies.
