A 5-year-old boy died on Saturday evening after falling off a seventh floor flat in Mumbra in Thane district, a police official said.

A senior doctor of the General Hospital here was found dead in the Amayizhanjan canal in the city on Saturday, police said. Dr Vibin (55) who was heading the department of anesthesia at the General Hospital was found dead after his car was abandoned near the canal at Kannammoola here.

Jaisalmer recorded a maximum temperature of 43.5 degree celsius on Saturday, the highest for the month of September in 74 years, the MeT said. This all-time-high is 6.9 degrees Celsius above the season's normal, it added.

Two men posing as journalists have been arrested in connection with an extortion case in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal, police said on Saturday. Police received a written complaint from Gulzar Ahmed Kasana, a resident of Surfraw Gund in the central Kashmir district, on Friday stating that two unknown persons, claiming to be journalists, arrived at his house and demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 as he was constructing a house, a police spokesperson said.

A 16-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in a forest area near Summerhill here, police said on Saturday. Lakshya, a student of class 10, left his house on Friday evening after he was scolded by the family members over some issue, they said.

The Kerala police arrested a 20-year-old man for alleged possession of the synthetic drug, MDMA, along with a microbalance after the luxury car he was travelling met with an accident on wee hours of Saturday. Police said they have arrested Kozhikode resident Anubind, while the owner of the car Habeeb Rahman (43) escaped from the accident site. The police have seized around 3.5 grams of methylenedioxyphenethylamine (MDMA) and the microbalance from the accident site. The incident came to light after one of the person who was driving the car lost control and the vehicle fell into an adjacent property near Koduvally here.
