    A nine-year-old girl died and another was injured as a balcony of a house collapsed on a crowd of people watching a Dahi Handi event in Buldhana district of eastern Maharashtra on Thursday, police said. The incident took place in Mansinghpura area of Deulgaon Raja town around 8 pm.

    Fire breaks out at Gurugram flat, seven people rescued

    Seven people from the Korean Embassy were rescued safely after a fire broke out at a flat of the Haryana Janpratinidhi (MLA) apartment in sector 28 here on Thursday afternoon, officials said. Two fire engines were pressed into service and the fire was brought under control after about an hour, they said, adding items worth lakhs of rupees were gutted in the fire.

    Man sent to jail for 10 years for raping minor girl in Odisha

    A local court in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Thursday sentenced a 35-year-old man to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a 14-year-old girl around five years ago. Mayurbhanj District Special POCSO Court Judge Sumita Jena also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on convict Samray Hansda, said special public prosecutor Abhinna Kumar Pattnaik.

    Punjab Police on Thursday arrested an alleged drug trafficker saying he was involved in cross-border drug smuggling. Nine kg heroin was recovered from the accused Malkait Singh, police said. "In a major breakthrough, Jalandhar Rural Police has arrested Big Fish Drug Trafficker Malkait Singh @ Kali and seized 9 Kg Heroin,” Punjab’s Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, posted on X.

    Three wildlife smugglers, including a father-son duo, were arrested and two tiger hides and 35 kilogrammes of tiger bones seized from them, an official said on Thursday. A joint team of the Uttarakhand Police's Special Task Force, Wildlife Crime Control Bureau - Delhi and the Terai Central Forest Division made the arrests from Bajpur in Udham Singh Nagar district on Wednesday, Chief Conservator of Forests (Kumaon Division) Prasanna Kumar Patra said.

    As many as 25 government bills, including the one dating back to 1992 pertaining to adopting a two-child norm for panchayat polls, are pending in the Rajya Sabha. Among the pending bills are the Delhi Rent (Amendment) Bill, 1997 that seeks to regulate rent, repairs of rented premises and eviction of tenants in the national capital, and one on amending the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Act to relax certain conditions for appointment of regulators, according to a bulletin by Rajya Sabha.
