Prime Minister Narendra Modi, arrived in New Delhi after concluding a three-day trip to Singapore and Brunei on Thursday. He touted Singapore as a model for developing nations and said India wanted to create "several Singapores" of its own during his talks with Premier Lawrence Wong.

Days ahead of the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly Elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday (September 5) released its list of star campaigners for the second phase of the elections. In a statement, the party announced the names of 40 campaigners who will seek votes for BJP candidates in constituencies set to go to the polls on September 25.

Two robbers of the Kaliya gang have been arrested from the railway lines near the Shahdara Railway Station here, police on Thursday said. The two accused were identified as Monu Choudhary (26) from Bihar's Samastipur and Sunny (23) from Delhi's Shahdara. 

On filing his nomination ahead of the upcoming elections in J&K, Congress candidate Shabir Ahmed Khan said, "... I want to urge the people of the valley to strengthen the alliance formed by Congress and JKNC... Our alliance will solve all problems of the people of J&K... The people of India announced their decision in the parliamentary elections by not giving a majority to the BJP..."

On talks of the Congress-AAP alliance for the Haryana elections 2024, Congress leader Captain Ajay Singh Yadav said,  "AAP has no base in Haryana, and I feel why should we give footprints to them. But if there is some urgency, then it up to the high command to decide whether they want to have an understanding with them in other states also." 

In response to a query on TMC criticising CBI in Kolkata doctor rape-murder case, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari said, "The CBI will work under the supervision of Supreme Court. The top court will take appropriate action over this. The CBI is liable to Supreme Court, and not to the central and state governments."

Congress releases list of star campaigners for Jammu & Kashmir Assembly elections

On protests over alleged illegal construction of a mosque in the Sanjauli, Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu says, "We have no intentions to disturb any community. We will not let any incident happen in the state. Political protests keep happening but no political worker has any right to disturb law and order in the state. Our local MLA and Ministers are holding talks there."

Indian cricketer and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has joined the BJP. Jadeja has joined the party by taking primary membership during the ongoing drive. Notably, his wife Rivaba Jadeja is also a BJP member and party MLA from Gujarat's Jamnagar seat. 

Delhi liquor policy case: In a significant development, the Supreme Court on Thursday reserved order on the plea filed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal seeking bail in the CBI corruption case stemming from the alleged excise policy scam. The matter was heard by a bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi is representing Kejriwal in the top court. 

As part of the party's membership drive, BJP National President and Union Minister JP Nadda visited the residence of veteran party leader L.K. Advani on Thursday (September 5) and presented him with a membership renewal certificate.

On Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue collapse, Congress MP & LoP Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi said, "...I give you a guarantee that Kadam ji's (late Congress minister Patangrao Kadam) statue installed will be here even after 50-70 years....Shivaji Maharaj's statue was installed but only a few days later the statue fell. Tamil Nadu: A 31-year-old doctor Dr S Samson Daniel was arrested for sexually assaulting minor girls at a Hostel affiliated with a government-aided school in Trichy. He was booked under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. His mother, 54-year-old S. Grace Sagayarani, who is the headmistress of the school was arrested for allegedly helping to cover up the offences. They were sent to 3-day Judicial Custody, said Trichy City Police.
