    The AAP should not celebrate Vijay Nair and Bibhav Kumar's bail as they have to stand trial and will "surely face conviction", Delhi BJP spokesperson Amit Tiwari said on Monday. Earlier in the Day, the Supreme Court granted bail to former AAP communication in-charge Nair in a money laundering case related to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy 2021-22. Nair spent nearly 23 months in jail in the case.

    Man gets 20 years in jail for kidnapping, raping 13-year-old kin

    A special POCSO court in Thane on Monday sentenced a man to 20 years rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping a 13-year-old kin and repeatedly raping her. Special Judge DS Deshmukh convicted the 29-year-old man, a driver from Kalwa, under Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and also fined him Rs 10,000, which will be paid to the victim.

    SC constitutes committee to resolve grievances of protesting farmers at Shambhu border

    Observing that farmers' protest should not be politicised, the Supreme Court on Monday constituted a high-powered committee headed by former Punjab and Haryana High Court judge Justice Nawab Singh to amicably resolve the grievances of farmers agitating at the Shambhu border. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan directed the five-member committee to convene its first meeting within a week and reach out to the agitating farmers to persuade them to immediately remove their tractors, trolleys etc. from the Shambhu border between Punjab and Haryana to provide relief to commuters. Both the Punjab and Haryana governments will be free to give suggestions to the committee, it added.

    The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a plea seeking direction to the Centre for conducting a socio-economic caste census for the welfare of backward and other marginalised sections, saying the issue falls in the domain of governance. A bench of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and SVN Bhatti allowed the petitioner P Prasad Naidu to withdraw his plea in which he had sought a direction for expediting the enumeration of data for census.
