    A sarpanch allegedly shot dead his wife in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Thursday, police said. He has been arrested after the registration of a case under charges of murder. According to the police, Yashpal, the sarpanch of Panchayat Halka Patrara, fired upon his wife, Neelam Devi, 46, using a .303 rifle in Sunderbani area of the district.

    186 passengers embark on Char Dham Yatra on special train

    As many as 186 passengers on Thursday embarked on a 17-day, 8,250-kilometre Char Dham Yatra aboard a special tourist train that will take them to Badrinath, Puri, Rameshwaram and Dwarka. The 17-day pilgrimage aboard an AC deluxe train will also have stopovers in Varanasi, Nashik, Madurai and Hampi, a Northern Railway spokesperson said. The train, operated by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation, was flagged off on Thursday evening from Hazrat Nizamuddin station.

    UP: NIA court gives death sentence to 2 ISIS-linked men for killing retired principal

    A special NIA court here on Thursday pronounced death sentence to two men linked to the ISIS for killing a retired school principal in Kanpur and indulging in terror activities, observing that the "motive of this murder was to spread terror among non-Muslims". The National Investigation Agency (NIA) court also imposed Rs 11.20 lakh fine on each of the two convicts, Atif Muzaffar and Mohammad Faisal, and said that the amount would be given to the dependents of deceased principal Ramesh Babu Shukla.
