The government has issued notices to social media platforms X, formerly Twitter, YouTube and Telegram to remove child sexual abuse material from their platforms in India, an official statement said on Friday.

A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and S V N Bhatti issued a formal notice on a batch of pleas challenging the August 1 order of the Patna High Court that gave the go-ahead for the caste survey in Bihar. It listed the matter in January, 2024.

A 25-year-old man died and two others were injured after they got off a running train at Kalyan station, on the outskirts of Mumbai, on Friday morning, a Government Railay Police (GRP) official said. The victims were travelling on the Deccan Queen train that was coming to Mumbai from Pune.

At least two persons were killed and four injured in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district as a mortar shell, reportedly carried by the floodwaters of Teesta river, exploded, police said. Police believe that the mortar shell belonged to the Army and was carried away by floodwaters flowing down from the hills following the cloudburst and flash floods in Sikkim on Wednesday.

A fire broke out in a saree shop in the Sadar Bazaar area in this Haryana district in the early hours of Friday, officials said. Five fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the blaze was brought under control within an hour, they said, adding that the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday announced releasing Krishna river water to paddy fields in Nalgonda and Khammam districts in view of deficiency in rainfall this season. He held a meeting with senior officials of irrigation department following requests from ministers and legislators on withering paddy crops due to deficit rainfall under Nagarjuna Sagar project ayacut in Nalgonda and Khammam districts, an official release said.

The caretaker of a mosque near the under-construction Ram temple in Ayodhya has entered into an agreement with the temple trust to "sell" the mosque land for Rs 30 lakh, according to a complaint lodged with the district authorities by local Muslims. Though the sale agreement was inked on September 1, the matter came to light recently. Local Muslim groups have now sought action against the caretaker of the mosque and called for cancellation of the agreement.
