SC refuses to restrain Bihar govt from publishing further data from caste survey
The Supreme Court Friday refused to restrain the Bihar government from publishing further data from its caste survey, saying it cannot stop the state from taking any policy decision. A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and S V N Bhatti issued a formal notice on a batch of pleas challenging the August 1 order of the Patna High Court that gave the go-ahead for the caste survey in Bihar. It listed the matter in January, 2024.

Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud on Friday referred to the significant increase in the number of women judicial officers and said it was a countrywide trend. At the outset of the proceedings, the CJI said, "We wish to share some happy news. Here in the back row (in the courtroom), we have 75 judges from the civil judge junior division from Maharashtra. Caretaker of mosque in Ayodhya enters into agreement for 'sale' of its land to temple trust
The caretaker of a mosque near the under-construction Ram temple in Ayodhya has entered into an agreement with the temple trust to "sell" the mosque land for Rs 30 lakh, according to a complaint lodged with the district authorities by local Muslims. Though the sale agreement was inked on September 1, the matter came to light recently. Local Muslim groups have now sought action against the caretaker of the mosque and called for cancellation of the agreement.
