    Maharashtra polls: Remove DGP Rashmi Shukla, Congress' Nana Patole urges ECI

    Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole on Thursday asked the Election Commission of India to remove Director General of Police Rashmi Shukla in view of the November 20 assembly polls. In his letter to the ECI, Patole alleged Shukla was a controversial officer who had sided with the BJP, and her continuing in office would raise doubts about holding polls fairly and in a transparent manner.

    Woman jumps to death from 22nd floor of Thane building

    A woman allegedly committed suicide on Thursday by jumping from the 22nd floor of a building in Maharashtra's Thane city, a police official said. The 45-year-old woman jumped to her death around 9:25am from a building in Hiranandani Estate, the Kasarwadavali police station official said.

    Two more die in Bengal factory fire, toll rises to three

    Two persons on Thursday succumbed to the injuries they suffered during a fire incident at a chemical factory in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, police said. The toll in the blaze that broke out on Wednesday afternoon in the factory where crude oil was distilled rose to three. The two seriously injured persons had been admitted to Barasat Government Medical College and Hospital where they died, police said. One person died in the incident on Wednesday.

    Delhi: Two injured as firecrackers catch fire in bus in Dwarka

    A man and his co-passenger in a bus were injured as some firecrackers being carried by him caught fire in Dwarka's Chhawala area on Thursday evening, a police official said.
    On receiving information about the incident, police officials visited the spot. On enquiry, it was found that the man was carrying a small quantity of firecrackers that caught fire in the bus and caused burn injuries to him and a co-passenger sitting beside him, the officer said Nothing suggesting blast has surfaced so far, he said. Both have been taken to a hospital and further investigation is underway, the officer added.

    Motorcyclist crushed to death by 'Shivshahi' bus in Latur

    A 59-year-old man was crushed to death on Thursday by a state-run 'Shivshahi' bus in Maharashtra's Latur district, a police official said. The incident took place in Gul market at 10 am, he said. "The bus dashed into a motorcycle, killing its rider Yusuf Sayyad, a resident of Alampura here," he said.
    Residents complained of frequent traffic jams and alleged traffic police were mostly absent from the area.

    Bhubaneswar: Three arrested, two detained over gang rape of girl

    Two men and a teenage girl were arrested in connection with the gang rape of another girl in Bhubaneswar, police said on Thursday. Two other persons, aged 21 and 23 years, have also been detained and they are being interrogated, a police officer said, adding that the arrested men are both aged 19 years. The girl was allegedly gang raped in a hotel in the Odisha capital on October 16. A case was registered with Nayapalli police station on Wednesday on the basis of a complaint lodged by the survivor, Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra said.

    Rajasthan: 75-year-old man commits suicide in Jhunjhunu

    An elderly man allegedly committed suicide by setting himself on fire in the Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan, police said. The incident occurred late on Wednesday night in the Kaseru village in the Mukundgarh area, they added. Police said that Sukhdevaram, aged 75 years, used to live separately from his family members. He allegedly set ablaze his car before immolating himself in his house. The body was shifted to the mortuary for postmortem, police said, adding that the case is being investigated.

    6 killed in tempo-truck collision in UP's Budaun; 5 rushed to hospital

    Six people, including four of a family, were killed when a tempo they were travelling in was hit by a tractor in the Mujaria area here Thursday morning, police said. Five injured were rushed to the district hospital. The party was returning home to celebrate Diwali. The victims, who worked as vegetable vendors in Noida, were travelling in a three-wheeled loader tempo which collided with a tractor-trolley.
