The CBI on Thursday arrested TMC youth leader Ashish Pandey in connection with the alleged corruption case against former principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar hospital Sandip Ghosh, officials said. Pandey, who is said to be close to Ghosh, was under the probe agency's scanner and was questioned by the CBI on September 30, they said.

The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved modifications to the Productivity-Linked Reward (PLR) Scheme for major ports and dock labour board employees/workers. The modified PLR scheme applicable from 2020-21 to 2025-26 will benefit about 20,704 employees of Major Port Authorities and Dock Labour Board Employees/workers, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways said in a statement. The total financial implication for the entire period will be about Rs 200 crore.

The Delhi government on Thursday extended the tenure of existing regular senior residents (SRs) and junior residents (JRs) in all government hospitals. The Department of Health and Family Welfare has also authorised all government hospitals to recruit JRs and SRs on an ad-hoc basis, following existing guidelines and orders until further notice, according to an order issued on Thursday. Meanwhile, the tenure of existing ad-hoc SRs and JRs in all government hospitals will also be extended until the recruitment process by the Centralised Committee is finalised, the order reads.

A moving car caught fire near the Road toll plaza in Haryana's Jhajjar, today. ASI Rajpal Singh of Dial 112 service speaking of the incident mentioned, "There was no loss of life in the incident. Fire has been extinguished and the situation is under control. (Firecrackers) have been found at the spot of the incident."

Telangana Minister Konda Surekha has issued an apology following backlash over her claims regarding the involvement of Bharat Raksha Samithi (BRS) leader K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) in the divorce of actors Samantha Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya. Her statements, made during a viral video, alleged that KTR's actions contributed to the couple's separation, prompting a legal notice from KTR demanding a retraction.

In a shocking incident in Bihar's Munger district, RJD leader Pankaj Yadav was attacked and shot while on a morning walk at the Airport ground. The attackers opened fire on Yadav, firing him with three bullets, one of which hit him in the chest. He was taken to a private hospital for treatment, where doctors were able to remove the bullets. He is reportedly out of danger.

In a tragic development, the death toll has increased in the blast reported at a firecracker manufacturing unit near the Sirauli Police Station area. Authorities said that while three casualties were initially reported following the explosion on Wednesday, October 2, the count has now risen to five, as two more people died from the injuries they sustained in the incident.

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh confirmed the safe release of remaining two youths out of three abducted by Kuki militants in Kangpokpi. The three men were on their way to a recruitment test when they were taken captive.

In yet another major attack reported against medical professionals across the country, a doctor working at Delhi's Nima Hospital was shot dead by two unidentified individuals as they approached him for a medical inquiry. According to released information, the doctor, identified as Javed was shot after the two assailants demanded to meet him following treatment for an injury.
