    CBI arrests TMC student wing medic leader

    The CBI on Thursday arrested TMC youth leader Ashish Pandey in connection with the alleged corruption case against former principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar hospital Sandip Ghosh, officials said. Pandey, who is said to be close to Ghosh, was under the probe agency's scanner and was questioned by the CBI on September 30, they said.

    Cabinet approves modification to PLR Scheme for major ports, dock labour board employees

    The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved modifications to the Productivity-Linked Reward (PLR) Scheme for major ports and dock labour board employees/workers. The modified PLR scheme applicable from 2020-21 to 2025-26 will benefit about 20,704 employees of Major Port Authorities and Dock Labour Board Employees/workers, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways said in a statement. The total financial implication for the entire period will be about Rs 200 crore.

    Delhi govt extends tenure of senior and junior residents in hospitals

    The Delhi government on Thursday extended the tenure of existing regular senior residents (SRs) and junior residents (JRs) in all government hospitals. The Department of Health and Family Welfare has also authorised all government hospitals to recruit JRs and SRs on an ad-hoc basis, following existing guidelines and orders until further notice, according to an order issued on Thursday. Meanwhile, the tenure of existing ad-hoc SRs and JRs in all government hospitals will also be extended until the recruitment process by the Centralised Committee is finalised, the order reads.

    Eight people were arrested here for allegedly preparing to organise a procession without permission and raising slogans against the killing of Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut, police said on Thursday.     Madhya Pradesh: Doctor caught while taking bribe for autopsy report

    A government doctor was on Thursday caught while allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 3,000 from a man to forward the autopsy report of his kin to police in Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh, an official said. Dr Rajendra Manjhi (30), posted at the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Manpur, was caught red-handed by the anti-corruption Lokayukta police, said superintendent of police Gopal Singh Dhakad.

    Isha Foundation row: SC puts on hold police probe, transfers plea from HC to itself

    The Supreme Court on Thursday effectively halted the police probe into the alleged illegal confinement of two women at spiritual leader Jaggi Vasudev's Isha Foundation ashram at Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. Transferring to itself a habeas corpus petition of a man alleging that his two daughters were held captive inside the premises of the Foundation, a bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud directed the Tamil Nadu Police to not take any further action in pursuance of the Madras High Court's direction asking it to inquire into the alleged illegal confinement of the women.

    RJD general secretary Pankaj Yadav shot in Munger by bike-borne attackers
