    Arrested West Bengal minister Jyotipriyo Mallick hospitalised

    West Bengal minister Jyotipriyo Mallick, who was arrested earlier in the day, has been hospitalised after being diagnosed with high blood sugar and renal issues, officials said on Friday. He had earlier fainted when produced in court and complained of dizziness, nausea and weakness of the left arm. Mallick, 66, is currently stable, and has been admitted for close monitoring and further evaluation, the hospital said in a bulletin. Mallick was rushed to hospital on Friday evening from a city court, where he fainted, hours after his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case linked to an alleged multi-crore ration distribution scam. "He underwent a CT scan, MRI, and relevant blood tests. He was admitted with an initial diagnosis of hyperglycaemia, renal impairment, dyselectrolytemia... and hypertension,” the bulletin said.

    The Gurugram Police has arrested three accused of demanding gold worth Rs 20 lakh as extortion from a shopkeeper, an official said. An FIR was registered in this regard at Shivaji Nagar police station, police said. According to the police, a shopkeeper filed a complaint that on October 21 when he opened his shop, he found a letter and a memory card. The letter demanded him to reach under the bridge of Agra-Yamuna Expressway at 5 pm on October 22 with gold worth Rs 20 lakh, failing which they would kill his family and burn down his shops and warehouses.

    Mumbai police arrests two persons in Rs 300 crore mephedrone seizure case; 18 nabbed so far

    The Mumbai police, which seized mephedrone worth Rs 300 crore in a two month-long operation, has arrested two persons in connection with the case, an official said on Friday. The arrest includes that of a man who allegedly provided the formula for manufacturing the banned substance and the manpower to set up a factory in Maharashtra's Nashik district, the official added. With the latest arrests, the police have apprehended 18 persons for their involvement so far, he said. A team from Saki Naka police arrested Harishchandra Pant from his native Dehradun in Uttarakhand on Thursday evening, the official said. Pant used to stay in Vasai in neighbouring Palghar district, he added.

    Number of voters in Odisha increases by 3 lakh

    The number of voters in Odisha has increased by around 3 lakh, taking the total to 3.26 crore, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nikunja Kumar Dhal said on Friday. Launching the special summary revision of the voters' list, Dhal said Odisha added 3,03,094 voters to the draft list till January 5. This increased the total number of voters from 3,23,52,119 to 3,26,55,213, a rise of 0.94 per cent. While 6,22,429 new voters have been added to the draft list, names of 3,19,345 voters have been deleted for various reasons, including death, he said.

    Reliance Retail Q2 profit rises 21 pc to Rs 2,790 cr; revenue up 19.5 pc

    Reliance Retail Venture Ltd (RRVL) on Friday reported a 21.04 per cent rise in its net profit to Rs 2,790 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, on growth across consumption baskets, increase in footfalls and new store openings. Its revenue from operation surged 19.48 per cent to Rs 68,937 crore in the September 2023 quarter. The retail arm of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) posted a net profit of Rs 2,305 crore in the July-September quarter of FY23, and its revenue from operations was Rs 57,694 crore. Its gross revenue in the quarter was Rs 77,148 crore, up 18.83 per cent.
