    SBI to add 600 branches in its network during FY25: Chairman Setty

    State Bank of India (SBI) is planning to open 600 branches across the country in the current financial year in a bid to tap business opportunities in emerging areas including large residential townships.

    "We have strong branch expansion plans...this would be mainly focused on emerging areas. A lot of residential colonies are not covered by us. Around 600 branches is something we are planning in the current year," SBI Chairman C S Setty told PTI in an interview.

    Rs 60,000 cr investment opportunity by railways in West Bengal: Vaishnaw

    Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday announced that there is a Rs 60,000-crore investment opportunity by the railways in West Bengal. He highlighted that 61 projects are currently pending in the state due to issues related to the handover of land to the railways, emphasising that the completion of these projects requires the TMC government to rise above politics.

    "Rs 60,000 crore investment opportunity by the railways exists in West Bengal," Vaishnaw said after inaugurating several railway projects and train services at Sealdah station.

    Chinese dancers, school children perform during Gandhi Jayanti celebrations in Beijing

    Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated on Wednesday at China’s sprawling Chaoyang Park with local school children reciting his teachings in Mandarin and an Odissi dance was performed by Beijing-based dancers on his favourite bhajan.

    Beijing's picturesque Chaoyang Park where Gandhi’s statue, sculpted by famous Chinese sculptor Prof. Yuan Xikun, was installed in 2005 came alive with recitation of his teachings in Mandarin by a group of Chinese school children.

    It was followed by a graceful Odissi dance performance on 'Vaishnav Jan To' by noted Beijing-based Odissi dancer Zhang Jinghui and her troupe.

    Guv Bose slams TMC govt for 'starvation' death of Bengal migrant labourer in Chennai

    Expressing concern over the death of a migrant worker from West Bengal in Chennai due to alleged starvation, Governor C V Ananda Bose on Wednesday criticised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, stating that his "constitutional colleague was playing with human lives".

    Bose's remarks come in the wake of the death of a migrant labourer from Purba Medinipur district, who succumbed due to 'starvation' in the Tamil Nadu capital on Monday.

    He also expressed concern on the plight of the state’s migrant workers, who face significant hardships in their search for livelihood.

    Militant shot dead in Churachandpur

    Unidentified men shot dead a self-styled town commander of a proscribed militant outfit near Leishang village in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, police said on Wednesday.

    The deceased, a member of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA), was identified as Seikhohao Haokip, a resident of Kaprang village in the southern district of the state.

    Two vessels carrying migrants from Africa sank in the Red Sea off the coast of Djibouti, killing 45 people, the UN migration agency said on Tuesday.

    The boats had departed from Yemen carrying 310 people, the International Organization for Migration said. Thousands of migrants from African, Middle Eastern and South Asian countries seeking a better life in Europe attempt irregular migration every year. Smugglers pack vessels full of desperate people willing to risk their lives to reach continental Europe.
