    Delhi: Mewat gang member accused of firing on police arrested

    The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested a member of a Mewat-based gang who was declared proclaimed offender in a case of firing on a police party, officials said on Thursday. Nadeem alias Kallu (43), a resident of Ghaziabad, was arrested from Sonia Vihar on Tuesday night, they said, adding a semi-automatic .32 bore pistol and four live cartridges were recovered from his possession.

    Security guard at housing complex ends life

    A security guard at a housing complex allegedly ended his life in Badlapur area of the district early Thursday morning, police said. Narayan Late, age around 50, allegedly hanged himself sometime during his night shift, said an official. The reason for the extreme step was not known yet, he addded.

    Terror funding module busted in Amritsar, 5 arrested

    The Punjab Police on Thursday said it has busted a terror funding module, backed by Pakistan-based Harwinder Singh Rinda, and arrested its five operatives, including a woman. The module was operated by Parminder Pindi, who was directly in touch with gangster Harpreet Singh alias Happy Passia, a close aide of Rinda, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav said in a statement.

    Pregnant woman found dead near river bridge in Chandrapur, 4-year-old son sits beside corpse all night

    A pregnant woman who went missing after setting out along with her 4-year-old son to get ice cream in Chandrapur in Maharashtra was found dead on Thursday morning near a river bridge with the latter having sat near the corpse through the night, a police official said. Sushma Kakde had gone with her son Durvansh from her home in Teachers' Colony in Ballarpur at around 9:30pm on Wednesday but did not return in time, Superintendent of Police Ravindrasingh Pardesi said.

    The final phase of registration for candidates who want to run in Iran's parliamentary election next year opened Thursday, state media reported. Nearly 49,000 people filed initial paperwork in August seeking to run for the 290-seat parliament in the election, set for March 1, 2024. The elections will be the first since nationwide protests rocked the country last year.

    The income tax department on Thursday raided multiple premises of the Yatharth hospital group in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi on charges of tax evasion, official sources said. The group's offices and premises in Noida, Greater Noida, Jhansi and Delhi are being covered since morning, they said. An email sent by PTI to the hospital did not elicit any immediate response.

    Delhi: Man kills wife after quarrel over her going out for work, arrested

    A 52-year-old man strangled his wife to death in south Delhi's Ambedkar Nagar area following a quarrel over her going out for work, police said on Thursday. Their son told police that his parents had a fight on Tuesday night and when he came down from his first floor room after receiving a call from his father Ved Prakash, he found him dragging his mother's body from the bathroom, they said. On being questioned by his son Akash, Prakash confessed that he had strangled Sushila (50) to death with a dupatta, police said.

    Odisha government targets to complete 20 water supply projects by March 2024

    The Odisha government has set a target to complete 20 ongoing mega piped water supply projects by the end of March 2024, an official said. The government has undertaken 207 mega piped water supply projects worth Rs 35,920 crore. Out of which, 16 mega projects have been completed while two are under tendering process. The remaining 189 mega projects are under various stages of implementation in different districts of Odisha. Target has been set to complete at least 20 of these projects by March, 2024, the official said on Thursday.

    FMCG major Nestle India Ltd on Thursday reported an increase of 37.28 per cent in net profit at Rs 908.08 crore for the third quarter ended September 30, 2023. The company, which follows the January-December financial year, had posted a net profit of Rs 661.46 crore in the same period a year ago, Nestle India said in a regulatory filing.
