A MEMU passenger train derailed reportedly after hitting a cow near Sarala in Odisha's Sambalpur district.

"Jharsuguda-Sambalpur Memu express train got derailed after a buffalo came on the railway tracks and was trapped under the train. One coach was derailed. No injury or loss of life was reported in the incident, all passengers were reporter safe," said Sambalpur DRM Vineet Kumar Singh.

Seven students of PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore arrested by Peelamedu Police for ragging a first-year student and tonsuring his head and demanding money from the student for consuming liquor. An FIR has been registered against them. All seven students have been suspended by the college management, police informed.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out a raid at a cooperative bank in this southern Kerala district today. The ED raided the Kandala Services Cooperative Bank near Kattakada here following reports of alleged irregularities of several crores at the bank. Sandeep Chakravorty, India's Ambassador to Indonesia has been concurrently accredited as the next Ambassador of India to Timor-Leste, the Ministry of External Affairs announced in a statement. Chakravorty will have his residence in Indonesia's Jakarta and is expected to take up the assignment shortly. Notably, he joined India's diplomatic service in 1996.

Police have busted a flesh trade racket allegedly run by a 17-year-old girl at a hotel in Navi Mumbai and rescued four women who were forced into prostitution, an official said today. Acting on a tip-off, the police's anti-human trafficking cell team raided the hotel located in Vashi area on Tuesday after sending a decoy customer there, the official from APMC police station said.

Eleven people, who had gathered in an area here allegedly to kill the chief of an ashram, were arrested after an encounter with police personnel, police said on Wednesday. Four of the accused suffered bullet injuries. Their target was the Kishori Kunj ashram's mahant, Swami Raj, police said and added that it was the mahant's son, Keshav Das, who had tasked them to carry out the killing.

A man alleged to have been robbed by unidentified bike-borne men in the national capital, police said on Wednesday, adding that a case was registered in the matter. The victim, identified as Hari Prasad (36), lodged a complaint claiming that he was robbed of Rs 2.8 lakh near Bonta Park in Kamla Nehru Ridge. 

 A raging fire Tuesday destroyed a massive World War II-era wooden hangar that was built to house military blimps based in Southern California, and authorities said the blaze could burn for days. The Orange County Fire Authority said in a social media post that allowing the structure to collapse was the only way to fight the inferno, which was reported around 1 am. The cause was under investigation.
