    Two-day meet of Assam oppn parties begins

    To work out strategies for next year's Lok Sabha polls, a two-day conclave of 15 opposition parties of Assam began in Dibrugarh on Thursday. Assam Congress president Bhupen Kumar Borah said the meeting discussed state-specific common minimum programmes for next year's general elections. The United Opposition Forum Assam (UOFA), formed in the line of Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A), will also finalise a "chargesheet against BJP" in the two-day meeting, Borah said.

    The Jawaharlal Nehru University logo will now include its "Tamso ma Jyotirgamaya" motto and it will be registered for patenting, an official said on Thursday. The motto is a part of a Sanskrit chant from Brihadaranyaka Upanishad that translates to 'Lead us from darkness to light'.

    Most exit polls on Thursday predicted an edge to the Congress in Chhattisgarh and Telangana while forecasting that it was advantage BJP in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Pollsters also indicated that in Mizoram, Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) was locked in a close race with the Mizo National Front (MNF) with the Congress and the BJP lagging behind. While the BJP is in power in the 230-member Madhya Pradesh assembly, the Congress is ruling Rajasthan (200) and Chhattisgarh (90). In Telangana, the K Chandrashekhar Rao-led Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has been in power since 10 years and in Mizoram, the MNF is in government.
