    Rajasthan: Man beaten to death for allegedly breaking into house

    A 32-year-old man, who barged into a house in an agriculture field in Barani village of Rajasthan's Baran district was allegedly beaten to death by the occupants, police said on Sunday. The incident took place on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, they said.

    The police lodged a case of murder against the house owner, identified as Mahaveer Meena, a resident of Barani village under the Baran Sadar Police Station area and a few others unidentified accused.

    BJP MP warns beneficiaries of Ladki Bahin scheme against attending Cong rallies; EC issues notice

    BJP MP Dhananjay Mahadik has kicked up a controversy by allegedly warning women who received Rs 1,500 under the Mahayuti government 'Majhi Ladki Bahin' scheme against attending rallies of the Congress party.

    The Majhi Ladki Bahin has been one of the major initiatives of the BJP-led Mahayuti this election year. In its manifesto for the November 20 state polls, the ruling alliance has promised to increase the aid to Rs 2,100 from Rs 1,500 if it is voted to power.

    The Kolhapur district collector, who is the district election officer, has issued a show cause notice to Mahadik for his statement under section 179 of BNS for violating the model code of conduct.

    Delhi's air quality remains in 'very poor' zone on Sunday evening

    The air quality in the national capital remained in the 'very poor' category on Sunday evening. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) at 4 pm stood at 335 ('very poor'). The city recorded an AQI of 334 at 9 am.

    At least eight weather stations, including Anand Vihar, Ashok Vihar, Alipur, Bawana, Jahangirpuri, Wazirpur, Rohini, and RK Puram, reported 'very poor' air quality in the evening.

    AP govt to table budget on Monday, with four months left in FY

    The Andhra Pradesh government is expected to present the state budget on Monday, during the assembly session starting tomorrow, according to official sources. The budget is expected to be presented with just over four months remaining in the FY 2024-25.

    The TDP-led NDA government had previously promulgated an ordinance approving a Vote-on-Account budget of Rs 1.3 lakh crore for the period from August to November.

    Eight cars gutted as lorry transporting them catches fire in Telangana

    A container lorry with eight cars being transported on it caught fire in Sangareddy district in Telangana on Sunday and the driver suffered burns, police said. The incident happened on the national highway at Zahirabad town between 1.30 pm and 2 pm.

    Three fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the flames were brought under control, police said, adding the lorry driver who suffered 20 per cent burns was rushed to a hospital.

    PM Modi to lay foundation stone for AIIMS Darbhanga on Nov 13

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bihar on November 13 to lay the foundation stone for AIIMS Darbhanga, state Health Minister Mangal Pandey said on Sunday. Speaking to reporters, Pandey said Modi will be in Darbhanga on Wednesday when 'bhumi pujan' for the super-specialty project will also take place in the presence of a host of other dignitaries, including Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Union ministers Chirag Paswan and Jitan Ram Manjhi.

    Notably, the north Bihar town will become the second place in the state, after capital city Patna, to have an All India Institute for Medical Sciences.

    Bangladesh's interim govt to seek Interpol support to repatriate Hasina

    Bangladesh's interim government on Sunday said it will seek Interpol's assistance in repatriating deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina from India, and other "fugitives", to face trial for alleged crimes against humanity.

    Hasina and her party leaders face accusations of ordering brutal suppression of the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement, resulting in numerous casualties during the July-August protests. The movement later intensified into a large-scale uprising, forcing Hasina to secretly flee to India on August 5.

    According to the interim government led by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, at least 753 people were killed and thousands injured during the protests, which it termed crimes against humanity and genocide. Over 60 complaints of crimes against humanity and genocide have been filed against Hasina and her party leaders with the ICT and the prosecution team till mid-October.

    Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor on Sunday launched a stinging attack on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, calling him "shameless" and accusing him of "backstabbing" Muslims by aligning with BJP.

    The former political analyst, who was once a close aide of Kumar, was responding to queries about the JD(U) supremo's attempts to reach out to the minority community during campaign for by-polls to four assembly seats.

    "Yes, indeed Nitish Kumar has done a lot for Muslims by stabbing them in the back (peeth mein chhura bhonkne ka kaam kiya).
    He formed a government in 2015 with Muslims' overwhelming support and realigned with BJP two years later", said Kishor.

    Gujarat bypoll: BJP suspends former MLA contesting as independent in Vav

    The BJP has removed former MLA Mavji Patel, who is contesting as an independent in the Vav bypoll in Gujarat, and four others from the primary membership of the party and suspended them.

    Patel, a director of Banas Bank, is contesting against the BJP's official candidate Swarupji Thakor. The November 13 bypoll was necessitated after Congress MLA Geniben Thakor was elected to the Lok Sabha.

    Patel (73), who comes from the dominant Chaudhary community, aims to cause damage by attracting Chaudhary votes that conventionally go to the BJP. He won the Vav seat in 1990 as a Janata Dal candidate.

    Maharashtra polls: 202 persons cast votes from home in 18 seats in Thane district

    A total of 202 citizens above the age of 85 as well as those facing at least 40 per cent locomotor disabilities have 'home voted' in Thane for the November 20 Maharashtra assembly polls, a senior official said on Sunday. These persons cast their votes on November 8 and 9, District Collector and Election Officer Ashok Shingare said.

    "The 202 citizens comprise 166 above the age of 85 and 36 persons with disabilities (PwDs). This voting-from-home facility is part of a broader initiative by Election Commission of India to increase turnout. In all, 933 voters from 18 assembly constituencies in Thane district have registered for home voting facility," he said. The process began on November 8, 2024, and will continue until November 17, Shingare added. (PTI)

    The body of a 20-year-old vegetable vendor with his throat slit has been found in a public toilet at a housing complex in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Sunday.
