    Two officials suspended for failing to stop illegal sand mining in Beed district

    Two revenue department staffers have been suspended for failing to prevent illegal sand mining in the area under their watch in Maharashtra’s Beed district, an official said on Friday. The action against Purushottam Sudhakar Andhale (mandal adhikari) and Kiran Prabhakar Dandhe (talathi) came after senior officials found signs of rampant illegal sand mining near a river basin in Georai taluka, he said. Beed Collector Avinash Pathak suspended the two on Thursday for dereliction of duty, the official said.

    RSS 'prant pracharak' annual meet in Ranchi from July 12; Mohan Bhagwat to attend

    All 'prant pracharaks', or province in-charges, of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) will assemble in Jharkhand's Ranchi next week for their annual meeting which will also be attended by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.     Two cops suspended on charges of molesting woman pilgrim in Kedarnath

    Two police sub-inspectors have been suspended on charges of molesting a woman pilgrim from Madhya Pradesh in Kedarnath a year ago.     Amritpal Singh taken to New Delhi from Assam jail to take oath as MP

    Jailed Waris Punjab De activist Amritpal Singh was taken to New Delhi by special aircraft on Friday morning for his swearing-in as an MP, an official said. Singh, who has won the Lok Sabha polls from the Khadoor Sahib constituency in Punjab, has been granted four-day parole for the swearing-in, he said. He was escorted from the Dibrugarh Central Jail, where he has been lodged since April last year, to the airport in the early hours amid tight security. An eight-member team of the Punjab Police arrived here on Thursday to take Singh to New Delhi. A team of Assam Police and the district administration accompanied them to the airport from the jail, the official said.

    The Congress on Friday slammed the Centre over the delay in publishing new Class 6 textbooks, alleging the Education Ministry is "sabotaging" the education of children. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh hit out at the government over the issue, saying that either the "rot runs deep", or the incompetence scales new heights everyday.     Mumbai: 11 taken to hospitals as sea of fans joins Team India’s victory parade

    At least 11 persons were rushed to hospitals for sustaining minor injuries or feeling dizzy after a massive crowd gathered along the route of the victory parade of the T-20 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team in South Mumbai, an official said on Friday. Nine were admitted to the state-run GT Hospital for suffering injuries or complaining of breathing difficulties due to excessive crowding. They are now in a stable condition, said the dean of JJ Group of Hospitals.

    Rahul Gandhi reaches Aligarh, meets kin of Hathras stampede victims

    Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday met here the family members of those who lost their lives in the stampede in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras, according to Congress leaders. Gandhi left from Delhi on Friday early morning by road for Hathras and was accompanied by state Congress chief Ajay Rai, state Congress in-charge Avinash Pande, party spokesperson Supriya Shrinate and other office bearers. The senior Congress leader landed in Pilakhna village in Aligarh around 7.15 am after he left by road from Delhi. Later, Gandhi is scheduled to meet families of the stampede victims in Hathras's Vibhav Nagar area.

    Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi left for Uttar Pradesh's Hathras from Delhi early Friday morning, according to Congress leaders. "Rahul ji left for Hathras from Delhi at around 5.10 am (on Friday)," state Congress chief Ajay Rai told PTI.     Delhi: Girl thrashes auto driver for assaulting her brother

    A girl thrashed an autorickshaw driver with a baseball bat in outer Delhi's Paschim Vihar area after he allegedly assaulted her brother, police said on Thursday. A video of the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, has surfaced on social media. In the video, the girl is seen hitting the auto driver, Shiv Shankar, with the baseball bat and then with a metal bangle. Shankar sustained a head injury and was rescued by passersby. He was taken to the hospital and discharged after treatment, a police officer said.
