    Gujarat: Court acquits MLA booked for hurling casteist slurs at govt officer, vandalising office in 2012

    A sessions court in Gujarat's Morbi city on Tuesday acquitted MLA Mohammad Javed Pirzada in the 2012 case of vandalising the office of the taluka development officer (TDO) and hurling casteist remarks. The court of additional sessions judge, Virat Buddha, acquitted Pirzada and four others who were booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections of unlawful assembly, obstructing public servant in the discharge of duty, and under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

    Rupee falls 7 paise to close at 82.37 against US dollar

    The rupee pared its initial gains to close 7 paise down at 82.37 (provisional) against the US dollar in a restricted trade on Tuesday. At the interbank forex market, the local unit opened at 82.21 against the greenback. It witnessed an intra-day high of 82.02 and a low of 82.37 against the American currency during the session.
