    Heatwave continues in northwest, central India; monsoon inches forward

    Parts of northwest and central India were in the grip of a heatwave on Tuesday with Banda in Uttar Pradesh recording the highest maximum temperature of 46.6 degrees Celsius with no relief in sight at least till Friday. At least 37 towns and cities across Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh reported maximum temperatures above 44 degrees Celsius.

    Maha: Man shoots dead estranged wife, injures mother-in-law in Pune; nabbed along with sibling

    A 45-year-old man allegedly shot dead his estranged wife and injured his mother-in-law with the butt of his pistol near a court in Shirur area of Maharashtra's Pune district on Tuesday, police said. The shooting took place around 12 noon on the premises of the public works department, which is located near the civil court, said Abhinav Deshmukh, superintendent of police Pune (rural).

    Infants among 22 worshippers killed in Nigeria church attack

    Two infants are among the 22 worshippers killed in an attack on a church in southwestern Nigeria that has shocked the West African nation, an emergency official told The Associated Press on Tuesday. The dead have been taken to the morgue while about 50 wounded people are still being treated in hospital following the attack at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo town in Ondo state, said Kadiri Olanrewaju, head of Nigeria's National Emergency Management Services in Ondo.

    Four kill minor over refusing to give Rs 10 for cigarette in Delhi, arrested

    Four men were arrested for allegedly killing a minor after he refused to give them Rs 10 for buying a cigarette in central Delhi's Anand Parbat area, police said on Tuesday. The accused have been identified as Praveen (20), Ajay (23) and Jatin (24), all residents of Baba Faridpuri, and Sonu Kumar (20), a resident of Anand Parbat, they said.

    A leopard was found dead with its body parts missing in Udanti Sitanadi Tiger Reserve in Chhattisgarh's Gariaband district, forest officials said on Tuesday. The carcass, around 4-5 days old, was found in a decomposed condition in south Udanti range close to the Odisha border on Monday evening, Deputy Director of Udanti Sitanadi Tiger Reserve Varun Jain said.

    A 28-year-old man allegedly murdered his father Tuesday following an argument over some issue in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.     HDFC Bank hikes lending rates by 0.35%; 2nd hike in two months
