    Iran has sentenced two women to death on charges of human trafficking, the country's official IRNA news agency reported on Monday, a penalty that sparked widespread condemnation online.     Sensex, Nifty climb nearly 1 pc; metal, banking stocks shine

    Equity benchmark Sensex rallied nearly 1 per cent to re-visit the 59,000-mark on Monday, propelled by sharp gains in metal, banking and capital goods stocks amid a weak trend in global equities. In a largely range-bound trade, the BSE benchmark rose 442.65 points or 0.75 per cent to settle at 59,245.98. During the day, it jumped 504.92 points or 0.85 per cent to 59,308.25.

    Suicide attack at Russia embassy in Kabul kills 2 diplomats

    A suicide bombing outside the Russian Embassy in the Afghan capital Kabul on Monday killed two members of the embassy staff and at least one Afghan civilian in a rare attack on a foreign diplomatic mission in Afghanistan. The blast went off at the entrance to the embassy's consular section, where Afghans were waiting for news about their visas, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry and the state news agency RIA Novosti.

    Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met RJD president Lalu Prasad on Monday, ahead of a scheduled visit to Delhi where he will meet leaders from various political affiliations in a bid to forge opposition unity. Kumar drove to the 10, Circular Road residence of Prasad's wife Rabri Devi, a former CM herself, where he was welcomed by their younger son Tejashwi Yadav, who is currently the Deputy Chief Minister.     Mumbai court extends Sena MP Sanjay Raut's judicial custody by 14 days

    A special court here on Monday extended Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut's judicial custody by another 14 days in a money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities in the redevelopment of a Mumbai 'chawl'. Raut, 60, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on August 1 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in connection with alleged financial irregularities in the redevelopment of the Patra Chawl (row tenement) in suburban Goregaon.

    Cyrus Mistry car crash: Two injured persons shifted to Mumbai

    Two persons injured in the car accident that killed former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry were on Monday shifted by road to Mumbai from a hospital in neighbouring Vapi town of Gujarat, an official said.     Jeweller killed in Ghaziabad; wife, daughter nabbed

    A 40-year-old jeweller was found dead in a car here in the early hours of Sunday, following which his wife and daughter were apprehended on the charge of killing him, police said on Sunday. During interrogation, the jeweller's wife and his daughter confessed to killing him, a police official claimed.
