    Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who quit the Congress three years ago, on Tuesday was seen having an animated chat with former president of the party Sonia Gandhi and sitting next to her at a function held in the Central Hall of the old Parliament building. Gandhi was sitting with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and party's Leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury in the front row when Scindia stopped by and spoke to them.

    Unable to repay Rs 3,100 loan, garlic vendor stripped, assaulted in Noida

    A 35-year-old garlic vendor in Noida was stripped and assaulted by a commission agent and his aides over non-payment of a part of a Rs 5,600 loan, police said on Tuesday.  Two persons, including the 'aadhti' (commission agent), have been arrested and strictest action would be taken against them, Additional DCP (Central Noida) Rajiv Dixit said.

    Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said the Narishakti Vandan Bill is a "revolutionary" step towards women empowerment. The government on Tuesday introduced the bill to provide 33 per cent reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. It was the first bill to be introduced in the new Parliament building.

    Delhi man held for cheating people on pretext of counting cash at banks

    A 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly cheating people on the pretext of helping them to count cash at banks, police said on Tuesday. The accused has been identified as Saheb Kumar, a resident of Bihar, they said. Police visited the crime spots and collected footage from CCTV cameras to track the suspect. On Monday, the suspect was apprehended, Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Chandan Chowdhary said.

    Farmers end hunger strike in Latur after assurance on release of funds under PM-Kisan scheme

    A group of farmers in a village in Maharashtra's Latur district withdrew their indefinite hunger strike on Tuesday after the local administration assured to release their pending instalments under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan), a sarpanch said. Farmers from Chilwantwadi village under Nilanga tehsil of the district launched an indefinite hunger strike on Monday in front of the collector office to protest against district administration for keeping them deprived of benefits under the PM-Kisan scheme.

    Gas price for Reliance to be reduced by 14% from next month

    The price of natural gas produced from difficult areas like KG-D6 of Reliance Industries is likely to be cut by about 14 per cent from next month in line with softening energy prices, sources said. For the six-month period starting October 1, the price of gas from deepsea and high-pressure, high-temperature (HPTP) areas is likely to be cut to around USD 10.4 per million British thermal unit from the current USD 12.12, they said.

    BSP will support women's reservation bill: Mayawati

    BSP supremo Mayawati on Tuesday said her party will support any bill that allows reservation for women in Parliament and other legislatures, even if the party's demand for a quota for the SC, ST and OBC within that quota is not met.     Farmer dies by jumping in front of train in UP's Mathura

    A 60-year-old farmer ended his life by jumping in front of a train near Narhauli bridge here, police said on Tuesday. A suicide note recovered from the man suggested he died by suicide after his daughter-in-law and four of her relatives had thrashed him and misbehaved with him, Superintendent of Police (City) Martand Prakash Singh said.

    IPS officer Kuldeep Dwivedi appointed DIG in CBI

    Senior IPS officer Kuldeep Dwivedi has been appointed as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Central Bureau of Investigation, a Personnel Ministry order said. He is currently working as DIG, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
