    Manipur: Rahul Gandhi stuck in Bishnupur after police stop convoy fearing attack

    Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's convoy remains stuck at Bishnupur after his convoy was stopped by the Manipur police on Thursday, amid allegations by the party that the BJP-led government is trying to thwart the leader's visit to the ethnic strife-torn state. Gandhi's convoy which was travelling to Churachandpur to visit relief camps in the area, was stopped by the police at Bishnupur, about 20 kilometres from the state capital. He had earlier in the day landed at Imphal from Delhi. Police officials said the convoy was stopped fearing violence along the route. “There is a security threat. We cannot take the risk of allowing Rahul Gandhi to proceed,” a senior police official said. The Congress, however, alleged that the BJP governments at the Centre and the state are using "autocratic methods" to stall the visit of Gandhi.

    Gurugram receives morning showers, waterlogging at over 25 areas

    Continuous rainfall for three hours, followed by intermittent showers for a couple more on Thursday morning led to waterlogging in more than 25 areas here and traffic congestions at some places, including at Narsinghpur. Rains started around 6 am in the city and police and Gurugram administration were present at key areas to remove excess water through pumps to help traffic movement. The downpour caused waterlogging in the service road of Delhi-Jaipur Highway, Narsinghpur, Basai road, Rajendra Park, Sector 52, Sector 55, Sector 56, Ardee City, Railway Road, Rajeev Chowk, Kadipur, Vatika Chowk, Delhi road, Sector-14, Udyog Vihar, Bajghera etc, among other areas.

    Morning rain throws Delhi out of gear, several stretches submerged

    Waterlogging and traffic jams were witnessed in several parts of the national capital after a heavy rain lashed the city Thursday morning. According to the traffic police, the area near the Jamia Metro Station was submerged in water. Waterlogging issues were also reported from Sarai Kale Khan, South Extension, the stretch between Geeta Colony Ring Road and Akshardhan Temple, and many other parts of the city. A tree uprooted on the Kali Bari Marg in central Delhi obstructed the traffic to much inconvenience of the office goers. According to a commuter who posted on Twitter, there was long snarl on the Azadpur flyover due to an accident involving a water truck. Several other areas on Ring Road witnessed traffic congestion.

    One killed as pick-up vehicle falls into gorge in Uttarakhand

    A pick-up vehicle fell into a gorge in Chamoli district on Thursday, leaving one person dead. The accident occurred on Nandanagar Sitel road, the police control room here said. One person was rescued from the scene of the accident and rushed to the Nandanagar Community Health Centre where doctors declared him dead. The deceased was identified as 24-year-old Jagat who hailed from Kimdwara, Nainital.

    Aviation regulator DGCA will examine documents submitted by Go First related to the revival plan and will also conduct an audit on operational preparedness before allowing the carrier to restart operations, according to sources. Senior representatives of the current management of Go First, which has stopped flying since May 3, discussed various aspects of the revival plan with officials of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in the national capital on Wednesday, they said.

    West Bengal: 30 injured as bus falls into roadside ditch

    Thirty people were injured as the bus in which they were travelling fell into a roadside ditch in West Bengal's Purba Bardhaman district, police said on Thursday. The accident happened at Dewandighi in Purba Bardhaman district on Wednesday late night when the bus was on its way from Krishnanagar to Asansol, a police officer said. According to him, the driver was overspeeding and while trying to save a motorcyclist lost control of the vehicle and it fell into the roadside ditch. "... all the injured are being treated at the Burdwan Medical College and Hospital. The condition of eight injured is serious. We are investigating the incident," he said.

    Uttar Pradesh: Woman shot dead by kin, police suspect honour killing

    A 22-year-old woman, who eloped and got married a year ago, was shot dead allegedly by a family member in Alipur Aterna village here, with police suspecting it to be a case of honour killing. The incident took place in the Budhana police station area of the Muzaffarnagar district on Wednesday evening. The victim, Farhana, had returned to the village after getting married in court a few days ago. She was on her way to buy medicines when she was shot dead allegedly by a family member, police said.

    World Bank President Ajay Banga named in 2023 list of Great Immigrants

    Ajay Banga, the President of the World Bank, has been named by a prestigious philanthropic organisation to its annual "Great Immigrants" list of honourees who have enriched and strengthened America and its democracy through their contributions and actions. Banga, who became World Bank chief in June 2023, is the first-ever Indian American to lead the institution. He is the only honouree from India in this year's list of ‘Great Immigrants’ by the Carnegie Corporation of New York.     India removed from UNSG report on impact of armed conflict on children

    UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has removed India from his annual report on the impact of armed conflict on children, citing "measures taken by the government to better protect" them. Guterres said in his report last year, he had welcomed the engagement of the Indian government with his special representative and noted that it might lead to the removal of India as a situation of concern. In his 2023 report on Children and Armed Conflict, the UN chief said, "In view of the measures taken by the government to better protect children, India has been removed from the report in 2023."

    3 people stabbed in Canada university building and police say a person is detained

    Three people were stabbed in a university classroom in the Canadian city of Waterloo and a person has been taken into custody, police said. The extent of the injuries in Wednesday's attack in the University of Waterloo's Hagey Hall was not immediately known. The victims were taken to a hospital. One person was taken into custody, police said. Authorities did not provide a motive for the attack and said more details will be released as they become available.
