Police officials form a human chain to open a route from ITO to Lakshmi Nagar. 

Delhi Police personnel have ended their day-long protest after assurances from senior officials. Minutes ago, Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik too appealed the agitating cops to abandon protest.

The agitating cops are now stressing on a written assurance on fulfillment of the demands raised by them. "We will only leave the protest site when we are given an assurance in written."

Even after assurances, the agitating cops are not moving from the protest site at ITO. Senior police officials are continuously requesting cops to return to their homes.

Devesh Srivastava, Joint Commissioner of Police (South): "We are looking into all your justified demands very seriously. Things are being worked out. Our sympathy is with all of you gathered here. Now please return to your homes, join your duties."

The agitating cops who were in no mood to budge earlier, are now cheering on the announcement by senior Delhi Police officials.

Senior Delhi Police officials have assured the agitating cops that all their demands will be met. An appeal was also made to withdraw the protest. A senior police official assured cops that the demand is being looked into by top authorities. The protesters have been asked to end their protest.

What agitators protesters are saying: "Ready to disperse the protest if we are given assurance on our demands. Some of the demands include setting up a Police Welfare Union, action against lawyers involved in violence and revocation of action taken against police personnel". 

Bihar Police Association: "The Association stands in support with each personnel of Delhi Police who was beaten up. We ask for an investigation into the incident. Police and lawyers both know the law, and no one should have taken the law into their hands".

Order for no coercive action against advocates not be applicable on subsequent incidents, Centre told Delhi High Court today. The court issued a notice to BCI and other bar associations on the Centre's plea. Lawyers sought ban on media from showing videos which could make situations worse; HC, however, declined to pass interim order, to hear on Wednesday.

A revenue department official was arrested on Tuesday by the Anti-Corruption Bureau while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 in Rajasthan's Barmer district, officials said. The revenue official (Patwari), identified as Govind Ram, had demanded Rs 40,000 as bribe from two men - Parasmal and Dungar Singh - for mutation of agriculture land.

After they lodged a complaint, an ACB team trapped Ram on Tuesday while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000. The accused had already taken Rs 25,000 earlier. The accused has been placed under arrest under the Prevention of Corruption Act, Deputy SP, ACB Annraj said.

Hundreds of Delhi Police personnel are protesting at the Police Headquarters (PHQ) against repeated incidents of violence by lawyers. The protest follows incident at the Tis Hazari court and the Saket court on Monday. Kids of Police personnel also accompanied them in the protest. Earlier, an SIT formed to investigate the cops-lawyer scuffle at the Tis Hazari Court complex, reportedly found that the police firing was done to protect the DCP from lawyers. Police had to fire in the air to disperse the agitated lawyers on Saturday, giving the whole incident an ugly turn. 

An Overground Worker (OGW) of Hizbul Mujahideen was arrested after security forces unearthed a hideout in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Tuesday.

A cache of arms and ammunition including a Pakistan-make 7.63 mm pistol with a magazine and a Chinese grenade were recovered from the hideout unearthed during a joint search operation by Rashtriya Rifles and police in Sangram Bhatta area of the district on Monday, the official said.

Authorities in neighbouring Shamli district have imposed a fine of Rs 2,500 each on 29 farmers for allegedly burning crop residue in their fields, officials said on Tuesday.

Additional District Magistrate Arvind Singh told newspersons here that the district authorities had cautioned farmers against stubble burning, which is a cause of pollution.

The Egyptian parliament has approved the extension of the state of emergency across the country for three months more months which was first declared in 2017.

With a two-thirds majority, parliament on Monday approved a decree by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to extend the state of emergency, Efe news reported citing state-run MENA news agency as saying.

According to the decree, "the armed forces and the police are in charge of taking all the necessary measures to face the threat of terrorism and its financing, maintain security throughout the country and protect public and private property, as well as citizens".

The United States is in talks with both Russia and China on a major arms control-like agreement, US President Donald Trump has said.

"We are looking at arms control right now. We are dealing with China, we are dealing with Russia," Trump told reporters at the South lawns of the White House on Monday.

"I think they would both like to do it especially as we are talking about nuclear weapons but we are looking at a major arms control-kind of an agreement right now with Russia and China and maybe somebody else," he said.

The United States has formally notified the United Nations of its withdrawal from the Paris climate accord, a global agreement in which President Donald Trump's predecessor Barack Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had played instrumental roles.

Although Trump had announced his decision to withdraw from the historic Paris Agreement on climate change on June 1, 2017, the process began on Monday with the formal notification and the US will be out of the pact on November 4, 2020.

Pollution levels in the national capital dipped on Monday, moving from "severe" to "very poor" category, with an increase in wind speed which reduced the noxious haze that obscured Delhi's skies for around a week.

A day after pollution levels peaked to a three-year high (494), the city's air quality index at 4 pm on Monday read 407. It dipped further and at 8.30 pm the AQI stood at 370, which falls in the "very poor" category. The relief came as the number of vehicles on Delhi roads came down significantly with the AAP government rolling out its car rationing scheme.

A man allegedly involved in looting trucks was taken into custody after he got injured in an exchange of fire with police in Greater Noida on Monday night, officials said. The gunfight took place around 8 pm in Omincron 1 area, under Site 5 police station limits, during which another accused managed to flee the spot, a police official said.

"The local police were tipped off about the movement of these suspects involved in loots on trucks in the area after which the motorcycle-borne duo was intercepted by a police team but they opened fire," Greater Noida-2 Circle Officer Shraddha Pandey said.
