    Govt spent railway safety funds on crockery, car rentals, foot massagers: Congress cites CAG report

    Citing a 2021 CAG report, the Congress on Friday claimed the central government "misused" funds meant for railway safety on crockery, car rentals, furniture, laptops and foot massagers.
    "This is how funds specifically meant for railway safety were used. This is the CAG's finding," Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said on Twitter.
    Quoting the findings of the March 2021 CAG report, he alleged that the Narendra Modi government has been "misusing" Rashtriya Rail Sanraksha Kosh (RRSK) funds on crockery, car rentals, foot massagers, furniture and laptops.

    20 newborns rescued after fire breaks out at Delhi hospital

    Twenty newborns were rescued and shifted to nearby medical facilities after a fire broke out at a hospital in west Delhi's Vaishali Colony in the early hours of Friday, officials said.
    Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) M Harsha Vardhan said the fire broke out at Nest Newborn and Child Hospital.
    No casualties were reported in the incident, he said.

    A grainy black-and-white gunsight video Russia released this week to bolster a claim its military blew up some of Ukraine's most fearsome tanks actually documented the destruction of a tractor, according to a visual analysis by The Associated Press.
    The Russian Embassy in Washington announced on Monday on Twitter its forces had “annihilated” eight German-made Leopard tanks, among the most advanced and powerful weapons NATO countries have provided to Ukraine.
    The Russian Ministry of Defence then posted a video on Tuesday on the social media network Telegram with text saying it showed “footage of the destruction of foreign armoured vehicles, including Leopard tanks”.

    Congress to fight West Bengal panchayat polls in alliance with CPI(M): Adhir

    West Bengal Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Friday announced that his party will fight the upcoming panchayat elections in the state in an alliance with the CPI(M).
    Addressing a press conference, Chowdhury said he has directed Congress workers to extend all cooperation to the CPI(M) in fighting the July 8 polls.
    "The Congress and the CPI(M) will fight the panchayat elections together. We have already directed our party workers to extend all forms of support to the CPI(M) in this regard," he said.

    Odisha: Brake pads of the AC coach of Puri-Durg Express caught fire near Khariar Road in Nuapada district due to certain glitches in the brake shoe on June 8. “In B3 coach of 18426 at Khariar Road station arrival at 22.07 hrs (10:07 pm). The brakes were not released after ACP (alarm chain pulling). The brake pads caught fire due to friction and due to the incomplete release of the brakes. No fire inside the coach. Fire only at brake pads. No other damage. The problem was rectified and the train departed at 23.00 hrs (11:00 pm)," said ECoR (East Coast Railway).
