A driver of a private ambulance allegedly attempted to rape a COVID-19 patient at a government hospital here, following which he was arrested. According to police, the accused entered the cardiology department of the Gulbarga Institute of Medical Science, where the 25-year-old victim was undergoing treatment and tried to rape her on Tuesday night.

As she screamed, other patients woke up and raised an alarm. Soon, the accused fled the spot, police said. On receiving information, the police immediately swung into action and managed to nab the accused. 

Police here have arrested the key member of a gang involved in kidnapping a woman and demanding a ransom of Rs 1 crore, police said on Wednesday. Santosh Chaubey alias Surya was arrested from Harkanshi Gadhi locality in the PGI area on Tuesday at 11 pm and the woman was rescued, a Special Task Force (STF) spokesperson said.

Priti Shukla, wife of Lucknow High Court lawyer Anurag Shukla, was kidnapped on Sunday from Sushant Golf city when she went out for a walk. The accused were changing their position frequently and were using the victim’s mobile phone to call her family for demanding the ransom.

The STF had constituted three teams to trace her location and find the miscreants. During interrogation, Chaubey revealed names of his accomplices – Jitendra, Kallu, Rohit, Bablu and others, the STF said, adding efforts were on to nab them. The accused had monitored the lawyer’s activities for some days before kidnapping his wife.

A 55-year-old farmer died after being attacked by a cow in a village here, police said on Wednesday. The incident took place on Tuesday in Badka Sufal area of Tola Jai Prakash Nagar village when Kishore Bind was working on his field, they said.

He died on the spot. Bairia Station House Officer (SHO) Rajiv Mishra said the victim’s body has been sent for postmortem.

A 22-year-old woman was found hanging at her home in a village here, police said on Wednesday. Karmavati got married to Shitla Prasad four years ago and she has a one-and-a-half-year-old daughter also.
Her body was found hanging from the ceiling of her room on Tuesday evening, SHO of city police station Shyam Sundar said. The body was sent for postmortem and a probe into the matter was underway, he added.

A bomb hurled by suspected underground elements exploded near an office of the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) in Imphal on Tuesday, police said.
