    MP: Digvijaya accuses BJP, VHP and RSS of insulting Goddess Sita; insists on 'Jai Siyaram' slogan

    Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Wednesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh( RSS) of insulting Goddess Sita.

    Talking to reporters here, Singh asked, "Our objection is why do BJP, VHP and RSS insult Sitaji. Since they insult Sitaji, we oppose their 'Jai Shri Ram' slogan. We say 'Jai Siyaram' and not 'Jai Shri Ram'," Singh told reporters here.

    Man kills six-year-old daughter in Kerala's Alappuzha

    A man allegedly killed his 6-year-old daughter on Wednesday night in their home at Mavelikara here in Kerala, police said.
    An officer of Mavelikara police station said the incident occurred around 8 pm in the coastal district of the state and the man was taken into custody.

    Punjab Guv begins visit to border districts, concerned over use of drones for smuggling

    Odisha train accident: 39 more bodies brought to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar

    Thirty-nine more bodies of those who lost their lives in the Balasore train accident were brought to AIIMS here so that these mortal remains could be handed over to their family members without any hassle after completion of the identification process, officials said on Wednesday.
    With these 39, the number of bodies brought to AIIMS rose to 162 and of these, 75 were handed over to the families.

    Andhra Pradesh Cabinet approves Guaranteed Pension Scheme, regularisation of 10,000 contract staff

    Approving the Guaranteed Pension Scheme (GPS) to employees, 6,840 new government jobs and regularisation of nearly 10,000 contract employees are some of the key decisions taken by the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet presided by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday.
    Under the GPS scheme, eligible employees will receive 50 per cent of the last drawn salary as pension, including receiving dearness relief (DR) on the lines of the Central Government declaring dearness allowance and DR twice a year.

    Cong declares expenditure of Rs 130 cr on Gujarat, Himachal polls; BJP spent Rs 49 cr on Himachal elections

     The Congress spent over Rs 130 crore for contesting the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh assembly polls held late last year, according to an expenditure report submitted by the party to the Election Commission.
    The BJP spent over Rs 49 crore for contesting the Himachal Pradesh elections, the saffron party said in its expenditure report submitted to the poll panel.
    The EC has not yet put in the public domain the BJP's election expenditure report for the Gujarat assembly elections.

    BBC communicates to I-T Dept on unpaid taxes, probe still underway

    British broadcaster BBC has communicated to the income-tax department that some of its past income, for its operations in India, could have gone unreported during the statutory filing of returns and hence it would like to amend it, official sources said on Wednesday.
    The development comes in the backdrop of the tax department conducting a three-day long survey in February at the offices of the organisation in Delhi as part of an alleged tax evasion investigation against them.
    I-T sources, however, said that the purported BBC communication has "no legal value" till it pays the due taxes.

    Mukhtar Ansari's gang member shot dead in Lucknow court

    Gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari's alleged aide Sanjeev Maheshwari Jeeva was shot dead on Lucknow court premises on Wednesday, police said. Two persons were injured in the shooting.
    The alleged assailant was caught on the spot, police said. Eyewitnesses said he was dressed as a lawyer.

    Agra: Two sisters burned to death as roof of house catches fire

    Two sisters were burned to death after the thatched roof of their house caught fire due to a short circuit in a village near Agra on Wednesday, police said.

    The blaze broke out around 12 pm when the two girls -- Kanak (3) and Veenesh (5) -- and their six-month-old younger brother Alok were asleep in their house at Karhaki village in the Kheragarh block of this district, Sunil Kumar, in-charge at the Basai Jagner police station said.

    “The children were sleeping on the first floor of the house, whose roof was made of husk and caught fire due to a short circuit," Kumar said.

    Odisha accident: 5 days later, people continue to flock accident site

    Five days after the tragic triple train accident near this station, it was business as usual here with a handful passengers, including a few sightseers thronging the tiny way station.

    Despite the scorching heat, people armed with their mobile cameras are here to see the mangled remains of the trains involved in the crash.

    Cabinet nod to metro connectivity from HUDA City Centre to Gurugram's Cyber City

     The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved metro rail connectivity from the HUDA City Centre station to Cyber City in Gurugram with an aim to strengthen public transport in the national capital region.

    The project will be executed by Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Limited (HMRTC) which will be set up as a 50:50 special purpose vehicle of the Centre and the Haryana government after the sanction order is issued.

    Cabinet approves Rs 143 hike in paddy MSP to Rs 2,183/qtl for 2023-24

    The government hiked the minimum support price (MSP) of paddy by Rs 143 to Rs 2,183 per quintal for the 2023-24 crop year (July-June) in order to encourage farmers to bring more area under the crop and boost their income. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the increase in MSP for all mandated Kharif (summer) crops for the 2023-24 crop year.

    Gold prices on Wednesday fell Rs 195 to Rs 59,790 per 10 gram in futures trade as speculators reduced their positions. On the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold contracts for August delivery traded lower by Rs 195 or 0.33 per cent at Rs 59,790 per 10 grams in a business turnover of 14,577 lots.

    Senior Pakistani lawyer killed in drive-by shooting in Quetta

     A senior Pakistani lawyer, who had filed a treason case against former prime minister Imran Khan, was shot dead by unidentified armed men in the restive Balochistan province when he was on his way to the court, police said. Abdul Razzaq Shar, a Supreme Court advocate, was killed in a drive-by shooting on Quetta’s Airport Road on Tuesday.
    The lawyer was immediately rushed to the Quetta Civil Hospital, however, he succumbed to his injuries on the way.

    Rajasthan: 4 dead in road accident in Sikar

    Four people, including a police constable, died in Rajasthan's Sikar on Wednesday morning when a car collided with a truck, officials said. The accident took place in the Fatehpur Sadar police station area around 5 am, they said. The deceased were identified as constable Revantram, Tejaram, Shahrukh and Riyaz, all residents of Jodhpur district.
    The bodies were shifted to a mortuary for post-mortem examination, police added.

    Mumbai: Girl student's body found in hostel; suspect commits suicide
