Trinamool Congress MLA Jayanta Naskar, who had tested positive for COVID-19 in May, died at a hospital in Kolkata on Saturday, a health department official said.

The 73-year-old legislator, however, had tested negative for the disease on Friday, a doctor of the medical facility said.

The Tripura government on Saturday cancelled this year's Class 10 and 12 state board examinations due to the prevailing COVID-19 situation, Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath said.

India has administered more than 27.62 crore coronavirus vaccine doses so far with a total of 33,72,742 jabs being given on Saturday, the health ministry said.

Class 10 and Class 12 students who failed in 2 subjects will be given 8 marks as grace. With this, over 2 lakh students will be declared pass. The decision was taken because compartmental exams couldn't be conducted due to COVID, Bihar Education Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary said.

"Our decision to promote students by giving them grace marks is better than other education boards who still have not decided how to promote students," he said.

The Madhya Pradesh government has decided to set up a state-level research institute for the COVID-19 pandemic and other diseases in Bhopal, state medical education minister Vishvas Sarang said. He said the proposal was approved by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday.
