    Six dead, 1,500 tourists stranded as landslides, rain wreak havoc in Sikkim

    At least six people were killed and 1,500-odd tourists stranded as massive landslides triggered by incessant rainfall caused devastation in northern Sikkim's Mangan district, officials said on Thursday. A newly-constructed bailey bridge at Sangkalang collapsed snapping the link between Mangan with Dzongu and Chungthang. Landslides blocked stretches of roads and several houses were inundated or damaged, while electricity poles were swept away, they said.

    Teacher recruitment, skills census, hiking welfare pensions among Andhra CM's first decisions

    Among the first decisions Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu took when he assumed office on Thursday were to recruit 16,347 government teachers, hike welfare pensions to Rs 4,000 a month and conduct a skills census.     India has ample wheat stocks, no plans to alter import duty, says govt

    India has sufficient wheat stocks to meet domestic requirements and undertake market interventions, if required, to keep prices stable, the government said on Thursday, adding that it has no plans to alter the import duty on the grain for now. The Department of Food and Public Distribution under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, is closely monitoring the market price of wheat, it said in a statement. "Suitable interventions, as warranted, shall be undertaken to ensure that there is no hoarding by unscrupulous elements and the price remains stable," the statement said.

    TN govt to operate LNG, CNG buses on experimental basis for select routes

    Three killed in head-on collision between car and truck in Jaipur

    Three people, including a toddler, were killed and one person was injured when their car collided head-on with a truck and fell into a ditch in the Raisar area here on Thursday, police said. The incident occurred around 12. 30 am when the victims, all of them relatives and residents of Uttar Pradesh, were returning from Khatu Shaymji in Sikar, Station House Officer, Raisar, Mahendra Singh Shekhawat said.
