    HC refuses to stay Afzal Ansari's imprisonment sentence in Gangsters Act case

    The Allahabad High Court on Monday refused to stay the imprisonment sentence of former MP Afzal Ansari passed by a Ghazipur court in a 2007 Gangsters Act case.
    The court of Justice Raj Beer Singh, however, granted him bail on the appeal filed by him against the judgement.

     Rajya Sabha proceedings were on Monday rocked by the opposition uproar over Manipur violence and suspension of AAP MP Sanjay Singh from the House for the remainder of the Monsoon session.
    When the Upper House of Parliament reassembled at 3 pm, having been adjourned three times earlier in the day, following heated exchanges between Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and TMC's Derek O'Brien over the issue of party affiliations of those submitting notices on the Manipur issue and suspension of Singh, noisy scenes resumed as Deputy Chairman Harivansh asked the AAP MP to leave the House.

    The Delhi High Court Monday asked a trial court to decide within a month a fresh bail plea by Shahrukh Pathan, who was seen in newspaper photographs pointing a gun at a policeman during the 2020 northeast Delhi riots.
    The counsel for Pathan sought to withdraw his pending bail application from the high court and to approach the trial court for seeking the relief as there is a considerable change in the situation.

    The rupee gained 15 paise to close at 81.83 (provisional) against the US dollar on Monday, as a sharp jump in India's forex reserves boosted investor sentiments.
    At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 82 against the US dollar and moved in a range of 81.82 to 82.04 in day trade.

    Pakistan's former prime minister Imran Khan appeared before the Supreme Court here on Monday which barred the authorities from arresting him till August 9 in a case linked to the murder of a prominent lawyer in Quetta.
    A three-member bench led by Justice Yahya Afridi issued the directives while hearing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief's plea seeking to quash the case, the Dawn newspaper reported.
