    Delhi Cabinet approves file to provide ex-gratia of Rs 10,000 each to flood-affected families

    An ex-gratia of Rs 10,000 will be provided to the families affected by the floods in Delhi ahead of their return to their homes from relief camps, an official statement issued on Wednesday said. The decision to provide financial aid to families was taken after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met victims to assess the situation. He expressed his concern for the flood victims, said a government statement. "The implementation of the ex-gratia relief is aimed at providing immediate financial assistance to the affected families and helping them recover from the devastating impact of the floods," he stated.

    Monsoon to stay active in Rajasthan until next week

    The monsoon is likely to remain active in most parts of Rajasthan until next week with the state witnessing heavy rains at isolated places in the next two days, the MeT said on Thursday. A spokesperson of the Jaipur Meteorological Centre said there is a strong possibility of the formation of a new low-pressure area in the north-west Bay of Bengal on July 24, due to which the monsoon could stay active the until next week. This low-pressure area will likely be created as a result of the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast on Thursday, the spokesperson said. He added that rain activities are likely to intensify in most parts of the state from July 22-23.

    Rajasthan: Three accused in Kuldeep Jaghina murder case surrender in Deeg

    Three men involved in the murder of Kuldeep Jaghina happened last week at Amoli toll plaza in Bharatpur surrendered at Deeg Kotwali Police Station on Thursday, an officer said. Bharatpur Additional Superintendent of Police Brajesh Jyoti Upadhyay said that Pankaj Jat, Devendra Jat, and Lokendra Gurjar alias Loki, all three wanted in the case, surrendered to police. The Bharatpur Police had earlier announced a reward of Rs 50,000 each on the information leading to their arrest. Kuldeep Jaghina, the main accused in the BJP leader Kripal Jaghina murder case, was shot dead on July 12 at the Amoli toll plaza in Bharatpur.

    Mason dies of electrocution in Delhi

    A 22-year-old mason died of electrocution in southeast Delhi's Shaheen Bagh area on Thursday, police said. The police received information from the Alshifa Hospital in Shaheen Bagh that one Danish, a resident of Kalindi Kunj, was brought dead. On reaching the hospital, they found that Danish was repairing the wall of a pit meant to house an electric water pump, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Rajesh Deo said. The pit was damaged during the flooding in Vishwakarma Colony and the motor was removed for repairs. However, the wire supplying power to the motor was left loose, he added. Around 2.30 pm on Thursday, when Danish went inside the pit, he accidentally touched the loose wire and got electrocuted. The incident occurred at the home of one Dinesh in Vishwakarma Colony, the police said.

    A Punjab Congress delegation on Thursday met Governor Banwarilal Purohit urging him to press the Centre to release Rs 10,000 crore to compensate the losses suffered by the state due to heavy rains and subsequent flooding. Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Punjab Assembly Partap Singh Bajwa, former speaker Rana K P Singh and former MLA Gurkirat Singh Kotli were part of the delegation. Addressing the media after the meeting here, Warring slammed the AAP government for being "ill-prepared" to handle the flood situation in the state.

    Cases pending in courts cross 5-crore mark: Govt in Rajya Sabha

    Cases pending in various courts in the country have crossed the five-crore mark, Rajya Sabha was informed on Thursday. In a written reply, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said over 5.02 crore cases were pending in various courts -- the Supreme Court, the 25 high courts and subordinate courts. "As per data retrieved from the Integrated Case Management System (ICMIS) by the Supreme Court of India, as on July 1, there are 69,766 cases pending in the Supreme Court. "Total number of cases pending in the high courts and the district and subordinate courts as on July 14 are 60,62,953 and 4,41,35,357 respectively, as per information made available on National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG)," he said.

    Mizoram women's organisation urges NHRC to take action over Manipur horror

    Mizoram's apex women's organisation Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP) on Thursday wrote a letter to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) urging it to take immediate action over the incident of naked parading and molestation of two women in strife-torn Manipur. A video shot on May 4 surfaced on Wednesday showing two women from one of the warring communities in Manipur being paraded naked and molested by a mob from the other side. "We are terribly shocked and saddened to witness this heart-wrenching incident in our civilised world and we find no words to express our pain and indignation," the letter read. While strongly condemning the incident, the MHIP urged the NHRC to take cognisance of the offence and take all necessary measures to ensure justice.
