    Couple killed, two injured in car accident on Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway

    A couple was killed and two others were injured when the car they were travelling in skidded off the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway in Maharashtra’s Palghar district on Sunday, police said.

    According to the Kasa police, the accident occurred around 2 pm when the occupants of the car were returning to Gujarat after visiting the Mahalakshmi temple in Dahanu.

    Jharkhand minority panel team to probe into mob lynching case

    Jharkhand State Minority Commission (JSMC) on Sunday said the panel would form a probe team soon to enquire into the alleged mob lynching of a man in Seraikela-Kharswan district on December 8 last.

    JSMC has taken cognizance of the incident after the spokesman of All India Minority Welfare Front Sarfraz Hussain in a letter demanded a judicial enquiry into the alleged mob-lynching of Sheikh Tazuddin in Adityapur.

    Hussain also demanded stringent action against the culprits and adequate compensation to the family of the deceased.

    26 Myanmarese deported to their country: Manipur CM

    Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Sunday said 26 Myanmarese, who entered India through the state's border, were deported to their country. Singh also said his government is committed to act against illegal immigration.

    In a post on X, the chief minister said, "A group of 26 Myanmar nationals, who entered India through Manipur's porous border, were deported to their home country today."

    2 injured, over 15 houses gutted in massive fire in Manipur's Moreh

    At least two persons suffered minor injuries and over 15 houses were gutted in a fire in Manipur's Moreh town along the India-Myanmar border on Sunday, a defence statement said.

    The fire erupted in Mission Veng locality of Moreh in Tengnoupal district, it said. "Assam Rifles and Manipur Fire Services promptly and doused a massive fire that engulfed 15-20 houses in Mission Veng locality in Tengnoupal district," it said.

    Man killed by tiger in MP's Shahdol

    A 48-year-old man was killed by a tiger in Madhya Pradesh's Shahdol district, an official said on Sunday. The incident occurred in Birhulia forest near Antra village, some 16 kilometres from the district headquarters, he added.

    "Jamuna Baiga (48) went to Birhulia forest on Saturday morning to collect firewood and didn't return home till evening. After his kin alerted police and forest departments, a search was mounted. On Sunday, his body parts were found scattered near Pachgaon-Birhulia road," Forest Range Officer RN Vishwakarma said.

    A fire broke out at Mini Secretariat building in Sector 17 here on Sunday. The fire, which fire broke out on the third floor of the building in the afternoon, was immediately brought under control, the Fire department officials said. Fire tenders reached the spot within no time as Sector 17's Fire Station is located just across the road.

    Speaking at the BJP's first public rally in Rohini before the upcoming polls, Modi said every season in the city has turned into a period of "emergency," with drinking water shortages in the summer, waterlogging during the monsoon and pollution during the winter.

    Man held for raping 14-year-old girl in UP's Shahjahanpur

    A man allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl and then tried to strangle her in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur district on Sunday, police said. The accused, Gangadin (50) has been taken into custody, police said.

    Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Sanjay Kumar Sagar told PTI that the girl, from a village in Sadar Bazar police station area, had gone to the field to attend nature's call in the morning.

    Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, wrote a letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, criticising her for the allegation that the BSF was allowing infiltration from Bangladesh, and said such a comment was an insult to security forces. He also accused Banerjee of indulging in "substandard" politics to appease her vote bank.

    Claiming that the administration in BJP-ruled Assam worked with security agencies to stop illegal immigration, Adhikari alleged that the West Bengal government was making infiltrators a vote bank.

    Man gets 25-year jail term for kidnapping, raping minor girl

    A court here has sentenced a man to 25 years in prison for kidnapping and raping a 15-year-old girl in 2023. The court of Additional District Judge Pratham Kant on Saturday held Vicky guilty and sentenced him to 25 years of imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000, Joint Director in-charge of the prosecution department PN Swami said.

    Lt Governor VK Saxena has approved relaxation in educational and age criteria to all 88 anti-Sikh riots victims who have applied for jobs under the Delhi government, Raj Niwas officials said on Sunday.

    The applicants have been granted full relaxation in required educational qualification and extended upper age limit to 55 years for all the 88 applicants, they said. The relaxation has been approved for their appointment as multi tasking staff in different government departments.
