Two persons were arrested for hurling a shoe at a procession taken out in a village in Sangareddy district in connection with the consecration ceremony of Ram temple in Ayodhya, leading to protests, police said on Tuesday.

Odisha Police's elite Special Operation Group (SOG) on Tuesday busted a Maoist camp following an exchange of fire with the left-wing extremists in Boudh district. The incident took place near Matakupa reserve forest in the Boudh-Kandhamal border when the SOG jawans were undertaking a search operation at Sagada, a senior police officer engaged in anti-Maoist operation said. The official said the ultras, about 25 to 30 in numbers belonging to the KKBN (Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh) division of the outlawed CPI(Maoist)), fled away from the spot leaving behind their few camp articles and one sophisticated weapon.
It is suspected that a few Maoists have sustained injuries, he said.

An offence has been registered against a jewellery shop owner for allegedly cheating a jeweller of gold worth Rs 1.9 crore in Navi Mumbai, police said on Tuesday. Based on a complaint, the police on Monday registered a case under sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code against Ranjitsingh Bhavarsingh Sisodia, who owns a jewellery shop in Zaveri Bazaar in Mumbai, an official said.

A 35-year-old Army personnel died of a heart attack while playing cricket during his leave in Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh, an official said on Tuesday. The incident occurred on Sunday in Marguva village. The deceased, identified as Lance Naik Vinod Banskar, died after suffering a heart attack, Dr Yogesh Yadav of district hospital said.

A police sub-inspector was injured allegedly after suspected criminals opened fire in the Kankerkheda area of this Uttar Pradesh district, officials said on Tuesday. The alleged incident occurred when a police team tried to stop a car carrying the suspected criminals. They opened fire at the police team and injured Munesh, the outpost in-charge, Senior Superintendent of Police Rohit Singh Sajwan said. He was rushed to a hospital where his condition is stated to be stable, the police said.

A truck transporting tomatoes overturned on a bridge on a busy road in Maharashtra’s Thane city, affecting traffic for five hours on Tuesday morning, a civic official said. The accident occurred on the Patlipada bridge on Ghodbunder Road around 4.14 am, the official said. A truck transporting tomatoes was heading towards Ghodbunder when it overturned on the bridge.

A nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 14-year-old boy in a village in the Fefna area of this Uttar Pradesh district, police said on Tuesday. The alleged incident occurred on January 20. The girl was raped by the boy, who is her neighbour, Fefna SHO Gajanand Chaubey said.

In a viral video, some people at Delhi's Jamia Millia Islamia tried to protest on the University campus on the evening of 22 January. After getting the information, the administration removed all of them. No action initiated because the protest happened inside the campus and no official complaint was given to the police, Delhi Police said.

The doors of the Ram temple in Ayodhya opened to the general public on Tuesday, a day after the consecration of the new Ram Lalla idol. A large number of devotees, both locals and visitors from other states, gathered outside the main gates for hours since late on Monday night, waiting to enter the premises. Carrying flags bearing visages of Lord Ram and chanting "Jai Shri Ram", the devotees waited for hours in the biting cold before the doors of the grand temple opened.

A 70-year-old woman was allegedly bludgeoned to death with a wooden rod by her grandson, who was apparently under the influence of liquor in Palghar district of Maharashtra, police said on Tuesday. The woman was killed on Monday night in her Umbarwadi village in Jawhar taluka, following which the accused was arrested, they said. "When the 23-year-old man, Dharmaveer Vaze, was having dinner at home, he heard his grandmother, Anandi Tokhre, complaining and murmuring to herself. This annoyed him and in a fit of rage, he hit her with a wooden rod, killing her on the spot," an official of Jawhar police station said.

The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday raided multiple locations in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula and a location in Himachal Pradesh as part of a money laundering probe linked to an alleged fake refund scam in the HUDA, official sources said. Around 18 premises in these cities are being searched by the officials of the federal probe agency, they said. A location in Himachal Pradesh's Solan district is also being covered.

A fire broke out in a six-storey building in Thane city of Maharashtra early on Tuesday, in which the main doors of two flats were gutted, an official said. Nobody was injured in the incident, he said. The blaze erupted around 3.30 am in the building located in Oswal Park on Pokhran Road in Majiwada area, said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Thane civic body's Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC).

The Odisha government made a reshuffle in its bureaucracy by transferring 41 IAS officers, according to a notification. Among those transferred were 17 district collectors, as per the notification issued by the General Administration & Pension and Grievances Department on Monday. The reshuffle was made with an eye on the Lok Sabha polls and assembly elections, which are usually held simultaneously in the state, officials said.

A newly constructed three-storey house in neighbouring Aattupatti hamlet collapsed, official sources said. The house was vacant at the time of the incident that took place on Monday, they said. The house-warming function is scheduled to be held in February, according to the house owner.

As cold wave continues to wreak havoc in North India, rail and air services remained disrupted on Tuesday (January 23) morning with several trains inbound to Delhi being delayed and numerous flights were late at the IGI airport in the national capital. As many as 28 trains running in from various parts of the country were failing to catch up on their scheduled arrival time in Delhi due to dense fog conditions this morning in the region. As many as six Rajdhani Express trains were running late among other trains towards the capital city. According to IMD, the minimum temperature in Delhi would be 7°C and the maximum would be 18°C today.
