The wife and brother-in-law of an NRI man, who had been found infected with the Omicron variant of COVID-19 here in Gujarat a week back, were also detected with the new strain, officials of the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation (JMC) said on Friday. With this, Gujarat now has three patients of Omicron, classified as a 'variant of concern' by the WHO after it was detected in Africa last month.

A princely offering of a set of gem-studded golden gloves to adorn the divine palms of presiding deity of Lord Venkateswara at the ancient hill shrine in Tirumala here was on Friday made by a devotee as a fulfillment of his vow. 

The devotee, a jeweller hailing from this temple city, along with family members, handed over the offering called 'Kati-Hastham' and 'Varada-Hastham' to A Venkata Dharma Reddy, Additional Executive Officer of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) that govern the cash-rich shrine, a temple official told PTI.

A vehicle overturned in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district, leaving a BSF jawan dead and two others injured, police said on Friday. The incident occurred in Ramgarh area on Thursday night, SHO, Ramgarh, Chunnilal said.

The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old Virendra Singh, he said, adding the injured are being treated at the Jaisalmer district hospital. The body will be handed over to family members after postmortem.

The Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police has arrested a former Group CEO of Religare Enterprises Limited in connection with siphoning off public money of over Rs 2,300 crore, officials said. The accused has been identified as Krishnan Subramanian, a resident of Rohini in north west Delhi, they said.

According to police, Manpreet Singh Suri, AR of Religare Finvest Ltd (RFL), filed a complaint against Malvinder Mohan Singh, Shivinder Mohan Singh, Sunil Godhwani and others holding key managerial posts, alleging that these people having absolute control on Religare Enterprises Limited (REL) and its subsidiaries put RFL in poor financial condition by way of disbursing loans to companies having no financial standings.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Uttar Pradesh's Balrampur district on Saturday and inaugurate the Saryu Nahar National Project which will provide assured water for irrigation of over 14 lakh hectares of land and benefit about 29 lakh farmers of the region, his office said. 

The project has been built at a total cost of over Rs 9,800 crore, out of which more than Rs 4,600 crore was provisioned in the last four years. The project also involves interlinking of five rivers --  Ghaghara, Saryu, Rapti, Banganga and Rohini -- to ensure optimum usage of water resources of the region.

BJP MLA from Ayodhya's Gosaiganj seat, Indra Pratap alias Khabbu Tiwari disqualified from the membership of the UP Assembly following his conviction by a Special Court for using a fake mark sheet to get admission in college.

He has been sentenced to five years in jail.

A person died while another suffered injuries after a car from the convoy of the Andhra Pradesh Education Minister allegedly hit a bike on Thursday in Prakasam district. The injured was sent to a nearby hospital in Kurnool. The accident took place on National Highway at Gobburu in Pedaraveedu Mandal in Prakasam district. 

P. Rajesh, Police Sub Inspector of Peddaraveedu said a case has been registered against the car driver of the minister.
