    Nearly 2.5 lakh vaccine doses administered in Pune district

    As many as 2,49,152 COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered in Pune district on Tuesday, the highest in a day so far, an official release said. A total of 81,40,496 vaccine jabs have been administered in the district till now. While 59,40,280 people have received the first dose, 22,00,216 have got both the doses.

    On Tuesday, over 1.68 lakh doses were administered in rural areas. As many as 1.50 lakh doses, given by the Bajaj Group as part of Corporate Social Responsibility initiative to the Pune Zilla Parishad, were administered at various centres in 13 tehsils, officials said.

    Zilla Parishad CEO Ayush Prasad said a special vaccination drive was organized for this.

    Mississippi highway collapses, 2 killed, at least 10 injured

    Two people were killed and at least 10 others were injured when their vehicles plunged into a deep hole where a highway collapsed after Hurricane Ida blew through Mississippi.

    Torrential rain may have caused the collapse, and the drivers may not have seen that the roadway in front of them had disappeared Monday night, Mississippi Highway Patrol Cp. Cal Robertson said.

    The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will conduct fine-tuning operations to manage unanticipated and one-off liquidity flows, Governor Shaktikanta Das said on Tuesday.

    As the market settles down to regular operations, the RBI will conduct fine-tuning operations from time to time, as needed, to manage unanticipated and one-off liquidity flows so that liquid conditions in the system evolves in a balanced and evenly distributed manner, Das said.

    He was speaking at a conference organised by Fixed Income Money Market and Derivatives Association of India (FIMMDA) and Primary Dealers' Association of India (PDAI).

    The governor said government securities are distinct asset class, and it is important to appreciate the role of the g-sec market in the overall macro interest rate environment of the economy.

    Rupee rises 29 paise to close at 73.00 against US dollar

    The rupee strengthened further by 29 paise to close at 73.00 (provisional) against the US dollar on Tuesday, marking the fourth straight session of gain following a firm trend in domestic equities and foreign fund inflows. At the interbank forex market, the local unit opened at 73.26 against the greenback and later gained strength to settle at 73.00, higher by 29 paise over its previous close of 73.29.

    The local unit moved in a range of 72.99 to 73.29 in the day trade. The rupee has spurted by 124 paise against the dollar in four straight sessions to Tuesday.
