The Bengaluru Police have sought shifting of Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and other accused in the Renukaswamy murder case, and rowdy elements from Parappana Agrahara jail here to other prisons, city Police Commissioner B Dayananda said on Tuesday.

The city police's proposal comes in the wake of a photograph of Darshan hanging out with three others, including a rowdy-sheeter, on the lawns of the jail emerging on social media on Sunday, sparking a row.

Two brothers were crushed to death after their family members allegedly beat them up and ran over them with a tractor in a dispute over their ancestral property in Chhattisgarh's Mungeli district, police said on Tuesday. A man and a woman also sustained injuries in the attack that occurred on the Gigtara-Chhatan villages road under Fastarpur police station limits on Sunday, Mungeli Superintendent of Police (SP) Girija Shankar Jaiswal said.

The Goa government did not grant permission to anyone for hill cutting in the state in the last six months and it plans to amend regulations to raise up to Rs 1 crore the amount of fine for illegal hill cutting and other such activities, a minister has said.

Town and Country Planning (TCP) Minister Vishwajit Rane issued the statement on Monday amid apprehensions that his department was allowing rampant cutting of hills in the eco-sensitive areas like slopes. "In the last six months, no permission was granted to anyone for hill cutting in the state," he said.

More than 50 lakh vehicles have used the Atal Setu, the country's longest sea bridge connecting Mumbai with its satellite city Navi Mumbai, since it was opened for traffic over seven months ago, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has said.

In a release issued on Monday, the MMRDA said 50,04,350 vehicles, including Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) and Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation's (MSRTC) Shivneri buses, have travelled between January 13 and August 26 on the sea bridge, which indicates a daily average of 22,000 vehicles (over 227 days).

Rameswaram Assistant Director of Fisheries said, "Yesterday, 430 mechanised boats from Rameswaram, ventured into the sea for fishing. Of that, a boat, along with eight crew members, was apprehended by the Sri Lankan Navy."

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said the Centre will send a team to the state to assess the damage caused by the floods. At least 26 people died as the floods devastated the state. A total of 17 lakh people were estimated to have been affected, and of them, 1. 37 lakh were rendered homeless, officials said.

SC will hear the bail plea by BRS leader K Kavitha in a money laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.

Emphasising the importance of doctors' safety as a matter of national interest, the Supreme Court on August 20 established a 10-member National Task Force (NTF) to develop a protocol for their protection. The meeting will be held in the Central Secretariat at 11:30 am.
