The BJP's Central Election Committee (CEC) met in the national capital today (August 25) to finalise the party's candidates for the upcoming assembly polls. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president JP Nadda were joined by other CEC members, including Home Minister Amit Shah, as they deliberated with party leaders from Jammu and Kashmir.

Maharashtra Cabinet led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday (August 25) has approved the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) which was passed by the Union cabinet yesterday.

Jan Suraaj chief Prashant Kishor said, "In 2025, Jan Suraaj will contest on 243 seats and at least 40 women candidates will be nominated. We have also said that in 2030, 70-80 women will be made leaders from Jan Suraaj. This was not a meeting of the women's cell, it was an effort to make women leaders in the true sense. Till the time women do not get economic independence, their equal participation is not possible... In 2025, when the Jan Suraaj government is formed, then no one will be forced to leave Bihar for a job of Rs 10,000-12,000. We have prepared a complete blueprint for this."

On Sunday, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala slammed the BJP over their repeated comments on the Congress-NC alliance for the upcoming J&K Assembly polls. He said, "Have we ever asked the BJP who they will ally with? Then why BJP is asking us... Had the BJP not allied with the National Conference or PDP in the past...they did. When you have done this work, then why are you asking us (on alliance)?"

The Uttar Pradesh Police recruitment exam is took place at 1,174 centers in 67 districts of the state for the third consecutive day on Sunday.

Senior administrative officials of the district inspected the exam centers to take stock of the arrangements. The exams are being held amidst tight security arrangements to ensure fair examination, officials said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday interacted with ‘Lakhpati Didis’ – women members of self-help groups who are earning Rs 1 lakh annually – in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon. The PM is attending an event to felicitate 11 lakh new Lakhpati Didis who achieved the mark during the third term of his government.

Two separate bus accidents hours apart in Pakistan on Sunday left at least 35 people dead and dozens more injured, officials said.  The first happened when a bus carrying Shiite Muslim pilgrims returning from Iraq through Iran fell from a highway into a ravine in southwest Pakistan, killing at least 12 people and injuring 32 others, police and officials said.

The Delhi Police said that a pistol has been recovered from a ten-year-old boy in Delhi's Najafgarh area. The boy had gone to school with the pistol in his bag yesterday, after which the school administration informed the police about the matter. The pistol is licensed in the name of his father who died a few months ago. The process of cancelling the license of the pistol has begun and the matter is being investigated: Delhi Police

Two people from Kanjar near here have been arrested for allegedly causing the death of a newborn child after a circumcision procedure earlier this year. The accused were arrested on August 22, police said on Sunday. Both were, however, granted bail by a court here on Saturday.

TMC leader Derek O'Brien has urged Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to "urgently review" and withdraw the 18 per cent GST on health and life insurance premiums during the upcoming GST Council meeting.

O'Brien, in a letter dated August 24, demanded that the GST on health and life insurance premiums be withdrawn at the 54th meeting of the GST Council. "The 18 per cent Goods and Services Tax (GST) on health and life insurance premiums is a burden on 45 crore Indians comprising the middle-class," said O'Brien, the Trinamool Congress' (TMC) leader in the Rajya Sabha.

Two people died in an explosion that rocked a firecracker manufacturing facility in the Natham area of Tamil Nadu's Dindigul district.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited the Naval Surface Warfare Centre at Carderock on Saturday and witnessed the experiments being conducted and the facilities available at the centre.

In a post on X, he shared, "Visited Naval Surface Warfare Centre at Carderock and witnessed the pathbreaking experiments at the facility. India and the US look forward to working together and benefit from each other's experiences."

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an alert on Sunday, predicting heavy rainfall in Odisha over the next three days due to a trough extending from South Uttar Pradesh to the Bay of Bengal.

"A trough extending from South Uttar Pradesh to the Bay of Bengal at 1.5 km above sea level is likely to cause heavy rainfall in our state, with some areas potentially experiencing very heavy rainfall," Bhubaneswar IMD Director Manorama Mohanty said.

The CBI is conducting raids across 15 locations in Kolkata and Howrah. The raids pertain to the alleged financial irregularities in RG Kar Medical College and Hospitals.  

Police Crime Branch arrested  Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia will pay obeisance at the Golden Temple in Punjab's Amritsar on Sunday. He will be accompanied by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
