Two soldiers of the Indian Army have lost their lives during a bridging exercise in the College of Military Engineering in Pune. Seven personnel have suffered injuries. The mishap took place when a suspension bridge tower collapsed during a basic training course. Meanwhile, a court of inquiry has ordered an investigation. Lance Havildar Sanjivan PK and Naik Waghmode lost their lives during the training.
CME is a premier technical training institution of the Corps of Engineers of the Indian Army and trains officers and jawans of the Army, services, other defence bodies and friendly foreign countries in engineering and technical subjects.
The incident took place on Thursday. A unit was training on a mobile bridge that is built to scale the difficult terrains. The mishap of the bridging tower took place in the afternoon, which led to serious injuries to seven jawans, two of whom succumbed to their injuries later.
