"We saw him get hit but it was all so sudden, we hardly had time to chase the driver. Bhaiyya's condition was bad — he was bleeding and we could see bones jutting out of the skin near the ankle. We tried stopping cars but in vain," said Prashant Kumar, 15.

"We did not have time to think, pushing the auto was our only option. Bhaiyya asked us to take him to Max Hospital, which was luckily just about a kilometre away."

"I saw an auto being pushed by children and was shocked to find one of our staff in it, severely injured. The lower one-third of Dubey's left leg was hanging loose," said Dr VGR Shastry, senior consultant in the emergency ward.
