New Delhi: A 27-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stocking 300 cartons of illicit liquor meant for sale here yesterday, a dry day on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Guddu Kumar was arrested by the Crime Branch of Delhi police after it received a tip off in this connection.
Kumar smuggled the illicit liquor in a tempo, which has been impounded.
"Kumar used to procure illicit liquor from Haryana and supplied it at prevailing market rates in Delhi, making about Rs 45,000 per consignment. A case under the Delhi Excise Act has been registered against him," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra.
Kumar, who belongs to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, moved to Delhi in 2006. However, being unemployed, he took up the illegal activity to make fast money, police said.
