Mumbai: The Bombay High Court today sentenced Shiv Sena leader Babanrao Gholap to three years rigorous imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case.
Gholap is presently the Shiv Sena candidate from Shirdi and his candidature is now in jeopardy.
Both Babanrao Gholap and his wife Shashikala Gholap have been convicted by the High Court.
Shiv Sena may now have to search for an alternate candidate to replace Gholap.
Gholap was minister in the Shiv Sena-BJP government in Maharashtra, during which a disproportionate assets case was filed against him.
It was social activist Anna Hazare who launched an agitation against Gholap forcing him to resign.
