Kolkata: A minor blast Monday outside a temporary office of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is probing the sensational Burdwan blast case, created panic in the Salt Lake area and sent the security establishment into a tizzy.
The low impact blast, that occurred Monday evening near a bus stand outside a Central Reserve Police Force camp that also houses the temporary office of the NIA in the satellite township, did not cause harm to anybody. But a part of the bus stand was damaged.
The explosion was heard around 7-30 p.m. But locals said they did not see anyone throwing or gathering explosives at the spot.
A senior officer at the Bidhannagar police Commissionerate said the matter was being looked into "very seriously".
"Nothing much has happened at the spot. We are examining the eye witnesses," said Kankar Prasad Barui, deputy commissioner at detective department of Bidhannagar commssionerate.
The explosion occurred at a time when the main suspect in the Oct 2 Burdwan blast -- Sajid, a Bangladeshi youth -- was being interrogated, possibly in the NIA office. Sajid was arrested Saturday.
